would you call the doctor?

Warner has been extremely fussy today. He screamed bloody murder when I tried to put him down for his naps this afternoon and in general was just unhappy--this is VERY unusual for him. He is normally still smiling when I put him down for a nap and very easy going. So I took his temperature because I thought he felt a little warm and it was 99.9. All the books and website I found say that I don't need to worry unless his temp gets above 100.4. But DH's nephew, who is 6, was here this weekend and I'm kind of wondering if he (or some other family member) might have gotten Warner sick. Or maybe it's just that having all the family around this weekend was too much for him?

He's finally sleeping now so I guess I'll see how he does tonight and take him temp again if he wakes up during the night. But if it's still 99.9 or higher, but not up to 100.5, should I call the doctor?

Re: would you call the doctor?

  • Maybe he is overstimulated with all the visitors.  I know that when DS is around lots of people, he gets super cranky and fussy.  Check his temp in the morning and if you are still worried, call the doctor.  That's what they are there for.

  • Can't hurt to call the dr. and find out when you SHOULD be worrying about the temp.  Especially combined with the behavior I'd be worried too that he was getting sick.  There might not be much to do about it but give him tylenol or bring him in to make sure it isn't anything they can give antibiotics for, but they are there to take your calls and mine has never given me a hard time and I called alot when Maggie was little.
  • Does your pedi have phone hours?  I have no issue calling for any reason, no matter how minor, during the phone hours, that's what they're for!  :)
