Vacation help: Catalina vs Santa Barbara (need hotel rec's)...

Thanks, ladies! I'm a SoCal native, but the last time I was in Catalina I was in college and didn't have much $. We want a nice place to stay... any rec's? Same for Santa Barbara. We would like to stay as close to the beach as possible. Oh yeah, DD is coming with us. TIA!

    In Santa Barbara, we stayed on the main stip...called Hotel Santa Barbara?  What was nice about it was that it was within walking distance to the beach, but very close to the bars and restaurants where all the actio and shopping is.  It feels very old world inside. 

     They do have hotels along the coastline, like that Fee Parker one, but we felt so isoloated.

    I've stayed in both Snug Harbor and Del Mar in Catalina.

    Both are nice and have nice ammenities (wine in the afternoon!) However, like most rooms on the island, they are super small.
