Stay at Home Moms

What to say???

My maternity leave is almost up, and I am about to give notice.  My manager works in an out of state office, so unfortunately I need to do it over the phone.  I am so nervous!!! Any words of wisdom?

TIA!

Re: What to say???

  • No good advice from me. I'm planning on giving my notice before the baby comes but I still haven't figured out when/how I'll tell my manager. I want to do it over the phone...no fair! :)

  • I'm not officially on this?board?yet, but I would just tell your boss that although you appreciate everything they have done for you, at this point in time your family comes first & that you've decided to stay home with LO full time. I haven't told my work quite yet that I'm not coming back after LO arrives & I am also very nervous to tell them, but just do it quick like ripping off a Band-Aid. It will be difficult I'm sure, but just think after you tell them, it's just you being a mommy to your LO for however long you feel is necessary. Oh, and I don't know if they will or not, but don't let them make you feel badly about your decision. You're doing what you feel is right for your family & family ALWAYS comes before work! Good Luck!?

  • I agree with PP - don't go into it apologizing about your decision. Do it matter of factly but let them know that you enjoyed working there, appreciate all they've done for you, and think highly of them (or something to the effect) but that family comes first for you and this is the best decision for your family. I know you feel nervous - I definitely was when I went back after maternity leave and then quit. To my surprise, my principal took it really well though and hopefully your boss will too. Take a deep breath and make the call. Good luck!
  • I just did this 3 weeks ago and was soooo nervous to tell my boss. I called her up a week before my leave was up and just told her flat out that I had decided to stay at home. She was really happy for me because not many people are able to, especially right now. Really there's no reason for them not to be happy for you, it's an awesome opportunity. Just suck it up and call, you will be fine I promise! I mean, what are they going to do, fire you?Big Smile

My boss even paid me for the rest of my leave
