POLL: How early did you go out of work?

I'm 28 weeks and still going strong...  Seems going out early is not in the cards for me...

How early did you go out?  Did not going back to work play any role in how early you went?

Re: POLL: How early did you go out of work?

  • My Ob told me to expect to be out between 24-28w - no matter what. I am in sales and drive/on my feet all day long.  I left at 27w (would have worked until 28 but it was the end of the quarter and made sense just to leave at 27).

I'm still giong strong at 36w - so something i'm doing is working! I have had no issues... only trip to L&D was b/c of dehydration due to a stomach bug- other than that- everything has been great!  I do credit having this time to relax and take it easy.

  • I stopped work Oct 3rd and had the babies the 25th of October.  I really should have stopped the week before the 3rd bc I was miserable that last week.  I carried my babies to 37 weeks.  I didn't go back to work but that didn't play a role in when I left.  I wanted a couple weeks to rest before the babies came.
  • I know it's till early, but my OB told me I have to be out of work at 20 weeks. I was quite shocked at how early, but he said with the nature of my job and having triplets it's the safest thing for me. My boss is not very impressed, but I did give her fair warning. :)
  • I stopped at 33 weeks, had the boys 34 weeks, 1 day!
  • I am still working. I am a lawyer, so I am on my feet in court occasionally, but mostly have a desk job. Commuting is harder for me than actually being at work. I work in a city and I have a 1/3 mile walk from public transit to the office, or I I drive in, a walk 1/4 mile from the garage to the office. Sucks in the afternoon when it is hot and during the incessent rain, since my rain coat no longer covers my belly.

I set my last day just after 37 weeks.

  • I went out at 21 weeks but that was with triplets.  I don't know how so many of you worked so far into the pregnancy - i give you all a lot of credit!
  • I started working from home 3 days a week around 25 weeks due to the commute into the city being tough.  Then I went to working from home full time at 30 weeks.  A few days later I was put on bed rest due to frequent contractions so I stopped working at 31 weeks.  I gave birth at 36w 5d.
  • Dr. told me to prepare to go out around 24 weeks but I was doing great and continued working. At 30 weeks, I started working 2 days from home and 2 days in the office (I have a desk job) and a couple days after getting this change in schedule, I developed pre-e and was put on strict bedrest so I worked half time from home until 35 weeks when I stopped working completely.

I had always planned to stop at 35 weeks regardless.

  • I was at work at 34w4d when my doctor called and said she was inducing me that night due to high uric acid levels in my blood draw. I started working from home 1 day a week at 30 weeks. I am an IT consultant and work on the computer all day.

At about 27 weeks my pedi talked about taking me out of work.  I was able to change my schedule to WFH 4 days and go into the office 1 day (typically the day I had a checkup so it was really a 1/2 day).  I followed this schedule until I delivered at 35w5d.

  • 18w, but that's because at that point I was just finishing grad school and my internship. My summer job ended at 18w and it didn't make sense for me to get another job at that point since I planned to SAH for at least 6-9 months with the boys.

  • I had to stop at 26 weeks because I started having regular contractions and had to go to L&D for a shot to get them to stop. ?So the doctor said I had to stop working immediately.?
  • I worked until 33 weeks and I'm a teacher.  I would have probably worked longer if my OB hadn't demanded I stop.
  • I worked until 27 weeks.  At my 25 week ob appt, everything looked just perfect.  At my appt 2 weeks later, it turned out I was in PTL with almost 100% effacement and over 1 cm dilated...  I ended up going directly to the hospital for the duration of my pregnancy.  I wish I had stopped work sooner.
  • I went out at 21.5 weeks...BUT I'm a teacher and that was near the end of school, so we were anticipating that I'd go back to work for 1-2 weeks and then be on Strict BR  (I would have returned int eh fall for weeks 33 & 34 and then gone out on BR...obviously my girls had other ideas, so I went in one Fri to L&D and was admitted for 3 weeks...one rescue cerclage later, I was home until the girls were born at 30 weeks. some thing I NEVER SUSPECTED would happen to me. :(
  • My peri wanted me part-time at 25w & quit altogether sometime between 30-32w. ?My body had other plans, & I went on hospital bedrest at 23w due to a shortened cervix.
  • I planned to work from home for a month after 28 weeks, to be cautious. ?I have a desk job that I could do from a laptop at home, so it worked for me. ?I stopped working at 32w1d, when I my peri told me to stop because of placenta issues, but I had already planned to stop at 32w3d, so it wasn't a big difference. ?

If you can swing it, I think it's better to plan to take it easy sooner rather than later. ?My feeling is that I'm only doing this once, so I'd better do it right, and no job is worth my babies' health. ?I am terrified of PTL, so this was all the motivation I needed. ?I'd feel terrible if I pushed myself too hard and ended up delivering too early or causing complications because of it. ?(And I know that I'm lucky to have the luxury of doing that; lots of women don't.)

  • I worked until 36w1d... when I developed pre-e and was put in the hospital over night and then put on strict bed rest... delivered by c-section after a NST showed my pre-e was escalating at 36w4d...

my plan was to work until 36w4d because that would have been the start of April vacation for my school and then I was going to be out for the rest of the year and summer.  I will be going back in September.

  • i went out at 30 weeks. ?I was feeling fine but dr. put me out b/c one of the babies was under stress. ?They were born 2 weeks later. ?Had the babies been okay, I would have stayed at work longer.
  • 28 wks. Desk job. Sitting is just as bad as standing my doc said. That is without getting up. I starting getting bad contractions at work just after a few hours. I had to be laying down.....
  • I teach high school, and I would still be there 33weeks but at 31 weeks I fell in a puddle of water at work and wound up with a stress fracture and in PTL, so now I am home.

  • I left at 35 weeks and worked from home b/c my BP was rising.  Before that, I'd been working 45 or more hours per week (lawyer -- desk job).  My office had put a recliner in my personal office, so I'd work from that on my laptop a lot.

I was freaking miserable at the end, but made it work.

  • I was put on bed rest at 33.5 weeks PG.  But I started working from home at 32 week because it was getting more difficult to move around by that point.

  • I am very fortunate and work(ed) for a company that told me I could leave whenever I needed to and told me to take as long a leave as I desired and they would find work for me whenever I was ready to come back. I left at approx 32 weeks and have decided not to go back until the babies are entering school.

Hang in there... I know a lot of women who worked up until their last week or so. However, that being said, taking it easy and getting plenty of rest and "feet up" time when you can steal it is important too. Don't push yourself!

    Good luck!

  • I went out at 28 weeks. My OB told me she does not let multiple pregnancys work past 30 weeks since you are already the size of someone full term with a singleton and they would not dream of working at full term. I choose to be done at 28 weeks because I was so uncomfortable and had not had a decent night sleep in well over a month. Trying to keep up with my class of kindergartners was nearly impossible with no energy. I believe the only reason I was able to carry my girls until my scheduled c/s was because I quit working. About 28 weeks was when I would start having contractions if I was up moving around too much. Good luck and do what you feel is right for you. Just remember not to push yourself too hard.?

  • I was smooth sailing until an appt at 29w1d when my cervix had shortened and my OB took me out of work and put me on full bedrest.  I remained on bedrest for 6 weeks, spent the last 6 days in the hospital on bedrest and then delivered by emergency c/s at 35w4d.
  • I'm still going .... at 27 weeks. I'm a NICU RN so if something should happen or Im feeling some contractions. I just head up to L & D.

So far my OB and MFM don't mind, since im already there :o)
