Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Good feedings & bad feedings

LO is formula fed and seems to have several good feedings a day, then a couple of really bad feedings where he seems to want his grub, but will just randomly get really upset and push the bottle out of his mouth. These feedings can take up to an hour and can be very frustrating for him & me.  When he starts to cry I figure he needs to be burped, but he will continue the crying even after he is burped.  Everything I read points to reflux but wouldn't reflux happen with every single feeding, not just here and there?  Does anyone else experience this?

Re: Good feedings & bad feedings

  • Yep, and my baby has been diagnosed with reflux. They told us it happens to him in the evening mostly because that is his most alert time of day. It also happens when he lies flatter and isn't propped up. He is on Zantac but I don't see much of a difference, our pedi says he will outgrow this between 5-6 months.

  • How did your pedi diagnose the reflux?  My pedi recommended we try mylanta in one bottle to figure out if it is reflux.  She said we wouldn't see results for a couple of hours?  We never added the mylanta because LO stopped having bad feedings for about a week, but just started again today.  Did you try the mylanta?
  • No, never was recommended the Mylanta. DS had other reflux symptoms, like not being able to lie flat, he would be very intense at a lot of his feedings, he would weeze a bit and he would seem to always have formula coming out of his mouth, even hours after he ate.
  • hmmmm.  See DS doesn't have any of the other symptoms for reflux.  The bad feedings seem to happen once or twice a day, or they won't happen for several days.  There is no rhyme or reason to them, I just can't figure out what is upsetting him.
