CD and front load washers

I am thinking that I want do CD but have so many questions I been lurking trying to see what I can find.  Are there any books or websites you ladies can recommend that are just general info?

My question right now is I have a stacked front loader washer/dryer, we live in a condo and arent able to hang a clothesline outside.  Has anyone CD with these kinds of washer/dryers?  I have read that the front loaders can be a problem since they use less water.  If I use the diaper sprayer would that eliminate the need for multiple washings? Any other front loader tips you guys can give me?  Thanks!

Re: CD and front load washers

  • I have a front loader, but not a stacked W/D combo.  My method of cleaning CDs is to rinse once on cool water (no detergent), wash hot w/ detergent, with an extra rinse at the end.  It's worked so far, and I've been CDing for close to 2 months.  Good luck!

  • Our washer/dryer situation is the same and we have been CD for over 8 months now. ?We just follow the directions from www.greenmountaindiapers.com ?We wash cold with detergent, wash hot with detergent, cold cycle with no detergent and no problems at all. ?I don't see why you couldn't do it. ?We are getting the sprayer though b/c DS started solids and they need to sprayed off before they go it in pail.
  • We don't have a stackable but do have a front loader.  I do a cold rinse w/ no spin & a hot wash w/ detergent on heavy (the heavy cycle has an extra rinse).  I've never had an issue with doing it this way.  I have heard some people throwing a towel in with the diapers though since the water level is based on weight.

  • I have saved this thread...I am in the same boat...I have the high efficiency, front load Frigidaire washer and dryer too and want to CD.

We can string a clothes line, but here in OK, I am not sure how great it will work for most of the year. Winters are cold/damp and Spring we have lots of rain.  Summer is hot and humid and things take forever to dry.  Fall should be okay.  How essential is it to air dry CDs?

I have started doing my research and had hoped to use a diaper service (my BFF in CA uses one and loves it) but unfortunately, they don't have them here.  So it's all on us.  I am willing to try...and use CDs at least when we have the baby at home (we'll have to do daycare a couple of hours a couple of days/week).

  • I do a cold rinse, then hot wash and two cold rinses.  I've had no problems.  Just make sure you don't use too much soap.  You really don't need much at all!
