  • I'm sorry....What?  I've never heard of this.  I usually separate the cord from the egg with two spoons and throw that in the trash.

    Yes.. food eggs.. from chicken..

    theres a white thing on the yolk... what is it?

  • ewww... no - chicken eggs are unfertilized, completely!!  The yolk is what would have been the chick ( *sniff* ) and the white stuff is (I believe) called ambium/albium or something like that?  It's what the growing chick fetus would have used for food, since it's not attached to mama.  The cord would have been the umbilical chord, I blieve, but I always find that too hard to notice.

    HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

    sorry...can't.stop.laughing.

    Ok.  The white thing is just a fibrous attachment that keeps the yolk suspended within the white to protect it from damage.  Sperm comes from roosters.

    ::snicker::

    Hope that helps!

    ::giggle::

    You can use the shell to remove the chorion (white thingie).

    K?

    =)

  • - just be happy you asked it here! ;) I may have been wrong about the chord - Glad's answer sounds right.

  • Yes, the white thing is the cord that keeps the sac attached to the wall of the egg shell or at that's what I remember from 5th grade science class when we hatched chicks.  You just take two spoons and grab the cord as close to the sac as possible, pull and toss.  Really you don't have to do this, but I do when I'm baking because it will inevitably be at the top of what I'm baking and then it doesn't look as pretty.

    my grandma always told me that too. i've taken it out since i was a kid baking. it always grossed me out. :)

  • I think a phone call to your mom is in order! Also, unless you are buying your eggs directly from a local person, I doubt they have many roosters running around :)
  • Do you know I still don't know what the white thing you guys are talking about is! And I make eggs for ds almost every morning! It makes me want to go crack the one egg we have in the fridge but that would be a waste.
