Question for bf moms whose 4-5 mo old STTN

Max is not quite there yet.  he will give a a 5 hour stretch anywhere from 10pm/midnight to 3 am or 5 and then he is up every 2 hours after that.  He's eating about every 3 hours (on demand) and eats 7 times a day.  always works out exactly to 7 times, no more, no less.  I am just wondering if he starts truly STTN, like 10-7 or something and drops one of the overnight feedings, do you think he will then start eating more frequently?

Does your bf STTN lo eat more frequently through the day, or do they just keep dropping feedings here on out?

I am nervous (as always) that he is not eating enough. he's on the small side.  he's 4 months and 13 3/4 pounds.  We have 4 month appt next week and I will discuss my concerns with pedi there too.

why am i always worrying Crying ????????

  • I think as they get bigger they eat more during each feeding and don't need to eat as often. I was also worried that DD was eating enough, she is a little peanut 16 lbs 4 oz at 9 months. But the doctor told me you will know when she is still hungry because she will cry after feedings like she wants more. She is also very happy during the day. I think you are doing fine!

  • Kayla is 15 lbs and eats 5x/day about 5-6 oz. She sleeps from 8:30 pm to 6 am. She started doing this about a month ago. Maybe try to increase the amount he eats each time to cut out that night feeding?

sorry I forgot to add: Do you pump at all to see how much he is actually getting? I pump and put it in bottles for daycare.

  • You are always worrying because you are a mom. It is like they give us a drug during labor that makes us instantly begin worrying about EVERYTHING.

My DD is huge, still a couple weeks away from 4 months, yet already weighs almost 16 lbs and I still worry that she is not eating enough!

She sleeps from 8-8:30 to 6, but on weekends will sleep until 7 or 8 since we are not waking her up to get out of the house. She eats every 2.5-3 hours during the day, about 7 times. I think he will probably just drop the night feeding and take in more during his feedings during the day.

  • thanks ladies.  you're right cubs, i think they give us the worry drug at l&d!  lol. thanks for the reassurance.  when i do pump i am able to get anywhere from 3-7 oz and i know he is much more efficient than pump.  his pees and poops are fine too.  when he takes a bottle of ebm he usually eats no more than 4 oz or so.  i'll take the weekend off from worrying!

glad to know i don't have the only little one around here!  it seems every baby on here is like 16 pounds at 4/5 months!  he definitely doesn't cry after feedings, he is very content and happy.  gives belly laughs and lots of smiles.  thanks again!
