Babies: 0 - 3 Months

A moment to myself and a vent

This isn't one of those "I hate my MIL, she makes my life hell" posts. I love her dearly but she has been in my house for 4 days and still has another week before she leaves. I may go crazy.

Reasons for insanity:

  1. She takes the baby from me without asking or saying anything.
  2. She has used pillows to make him a cradle (including one on his chest so he wouldn't fall off the bed)
  3. She tries to shush everytime he cries instead of checking his diaper or seeing if he is hungry
  4. She keeps cleaning things without asking what needs to be done (we have little piles of stuff everywhere now and I keep finding the funnel in with the cups)
  5. She will rock/shake him for hours so he won't cry

At least her heart is the right place.

  • she puts a pillow on a three week olds chest?

and really, if you are there why arent you just taking control of this situation?

  • My MIL told me to give DS a paci dipped in honey when he cries.... You can't teach the old dogs the new baby rules.
  • My MIL will come hang out with dh on the rare times I am not home, every time she tries to help by like putting dish's away. She ALWAYS changes things around. I come home and freak out because I can't fund any thing. I feel ya on this vent! Also every time dd cries she insists that it's gas and that I need to give her the drops. EVERY EFFIN TIME!

I have stepped in and stopped her. English isn't her first language and Dh has showed/talked to her about safety with baby. She also raised her sons in a country that has completely different childrearing methods. The shaking really isn't "Shaking" but the constant motion kind of concerned me.

Let me just say that the 2 weeks that were meant to make my life easier are actually making it harder. I have take care of a newborn and constantly supervise my MIL when she's with him. I only take naps when DH is home and with the baby.

    ?

concerned you???? so you're gonna sit there and let some woman do things to your child that CONCERN you????

    that concerns me.?

  • Oh - I am sure that I will be feeling the same way in a few weeks....not quite there yet - just 36 weeks along, but I KNOW this will drive me crazy too. Also, my MIL is fantastic, but I think no matter who they are, eventually, they get on your nerves!!
  • I am with you. My MIL is very nice, but I have had visions of attacking her when she snatches the baby away from me. :) My DH was worried I might actually do it. I just keep telling myself how important family is and how much I want my son to have the close relationship with his grandparents that I had with mine. So far, I haven't done it. One more week and you will have a break. GL
