3rd Trimester

intense leg pain

So I fell asleep on the couch this afternoon (on my left side) and when I woke up, my left leg hurt SO bad. It felt like someone had punched me in the upper thigh. I took a Tylenol, thinking I'd just slept on it funny. 5 hours later and it still hurts a lot. I just got out the heating pad. Any other ideas to help it go away?

This is when I hate my pregnancy books - leg pain in all of them tells you you're having DVT.

Re: intense leg pain

  • Ow!  I've had cramps in my legs, but they've been in my calves.

  • I was just telling DH the same thing! I stayed in bed today and my left thigh is so sore. As long as it's not red, streaky, or hot, it's just a leg cramp. :)

  • i would try and move around and do exercises with your legs...it sounds like your blood circulation is just not that great...

or maybe there was something pressed against leg while sleeping??

  • Are they down the inside of your leg (like from your crotch down) sorry for the detail, or in your calves?

It's just a constant pain/ache in the middle of my outer thigh. It hasn't traveled and didn't start hurting until after I woke up after lying on my left side.

I'm stumped. If it was inner leg pain it's called sciatic nerve pain--if it's in your calf its from lack of potassium (I dont know if this is true but it honestly worked for me--eat bananas).

Yeah I wondered if it was a nerve thing. She has been more on that side today, so maybe?

It really just feels like a bad bone bruise! So weird because like I said, I haven't hurt my leg at all, and it only started after lying on it.

  • I was just asking my dr about this today.  My pain is more in my inner thighs/pelvic area. Kind of seems like my hip joints.  She said it was normal, that everything is just stretching out/loosening up down there and come time for the delivery I will be glad for it!  lol She suggested baths and walking.  She also said wet heat is better then dry heat (I was using a heating pad to).  She said to heating up a wet wash cloth in the microwave then putting it in a ziploc and applying it. Need to try it yet to see if it helps more!
  • Try taking a shower - that's the only thing that works for me.

  • I get this too - If it's not in one thigh, it is in the other.  Feels like a charlie horse cramp.  My dr. said it's normal...I don't have any advice to make it go away. Sorry.
