Yes, lol! I did buy a sewing machine last weekend too.
I bought the one last weekend for the cabinet it came in, but am in love with the machine too, so now it's an antique that I'd like to get up and running just to have in working order.
Today's find may find it's way to the MOPs group (I'm the creative activities coordinator) or it may become a good "traveling" machine since it has a good case and all. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it (other than sew).
Perhaps I will keep buying used machines for $5, and then Glad & I will open a traveling sewing school and teach willing EFFers?
Re: ~**Army QM**~
I thought that was you!
Sign me up for those classes!
I was telling my mom tonight about you buying all these old machines so I asked her about the old treadle machine they used to have when I was growing up. Supposedly they still have it and want to give it to me (it's in the garage taking up space). It's a 1929 Bruce that belonged to my great-grandmother. Unfortunately it's missing the bobbin and I'm guessing those are not easy to come by these days.
I'm so game for this right now, you have NO IDEA. Where shall we begin?
Google, eBay, and sewing machine repair shops are your friends
That sounds like a fab machine! I feel like I made a new friend with the 1928 sitting there in the entry way. I pet her everytime I go to and from the stair case.
With buying more $5 machines, duh!
I'm on a one woman mission to rescue these babies from rusting away in basements, garages, sheds, and scrap piles!
My serger is a "she," too. She's a very butch "she," though.
hehehee.
They're alive.
Believe me.
Yes.
Me too. Oh, how I could make this work.
I'll bring the fabric. Any preferences?
All of the above, hot tea, & a place to sleep.
I'd say minkee but I am guessing that's not the easiest thing to learn to sew on. So I'll go with whatever you have that's not girly. Bring it all!! And yes, I know you have tons so that's why you need to bring it all!! Rent a UHAUL and come on up.
I wish I had something exciting up here to entice you with but it's just me and my cute kid....and two annoying but cute dogs as well.
So long as I can leave my stress here, I'm down with the cute dogs, cute kid, and fabric-fest.
I recommend flannel or cotton wovens for learning. MUCH easier than minkee or other knits. PUL is pretty easy, though. Want me to bring some of that, too?
Pick me up on your way there.
I'll bring jelly. I got 10 lbs of rhubarb today
Ooooooo...wiffeeeeeyyy....I looooooveeee youuuuuu......
::swoon::
But of course! Who doesnt need more PUL? Diapers, diapers and more diapers would be in Carter's future!
Honestly, it seems every day I think of something I think I could potentially sew. I do know a little of how to sew the basics from my days in Home Ec and summers with my aunt who used to try to teach myself and my cousins (god we made some hideous outfits!) but alas I am a bit too lazy to start such endeavors. My husband would say "add it to your list" of things I always say I want to do but never actually attempt.
Jenni and I can fix this. Trust us. We shall be the Sewing Quarter Masters. Mouhahahahahahaaaaa!
Actually, it's almond cherry rhubarb jelly. Glad's drug of choice, cooked up by your's truely in my kitchen.
All the fruit is local grown whenever possible. This rhubarb was picked 15 minutes before I put it in my car this afternoon.
::tilts head and bats eyelashes at Jenni::
Does this mean I can dring the whip & you'll bring the bobbin needles, Glade dearie?
Patience.
MIL & I must have pie first. Then I make jelly.
Please the cook before the masses.
Is that pie I smell baking?
::continues to bat eyelashes::
You know I know how to can right?
And bake from scratch?
We've got you covered!
We might even get out the knitting needles!
I shall teach you to bake pie. And croissants. And your hubby will love me forever. Er, I mean, your hubby will love you for ever.
You'd be surprised.
