Figured out why I've gained so much weight

...in the past month.  I haven't been nursing DS as frequently and haven't cut my calorie intake.  Basically my body has been saying I'm hungry and I've been eating regardless.  Ugh, now I have to work harder to get to where I want to be.  It's going to be hard to ignore hunger signals.  My body rarely ever tells me that I'm full or comfortable even when I follow all things I'm supposed to do to let my brain tell my stomach that I'm good.

Re: Figured out why I've gained so much weight

  • I hear you.  I started gaining when DD started cutting nursing sessions.  Now that she has (possibly) weaned I am scared.  My stomach doesn't have a cut-off.  I just keep eating and eating.  This could be bad.

  • That stinks :(

How much water are you drinking?  I think it's easy to confuse thirsty with hungry if it's not the dry-mouthed panting sort of thirsty.  I actually had a dietitian tell me that my drinking so much water was suppressing my hungry signals, and that my recent dizzy spells were due to not eating enough because of "too much water."  I don't buy the too much water thing, but I have learned how close hungry can be to thirsty.  Maybe watching that might help?

  • I drink 3 liters of water a day.  And I have days where that's not enough because I'm being told I'm thirsty, but I inevitably have to pee right while DS is latched on and asleep and he gets mad if I unlatch him to go to the bathroom.
  • Well crap.  There goes my helpful idea :(

I appreciate it.  :-) I'm just sad that I have so much to lose.  I'm breaking it down into manageable increments. It's just the hunger is going to kill me for about two weeks until my stomach shrinks.

  • We need to set up a weaning/cutting nursing sessions mama "don't eat your arm off" check-in or something. LOL

  • Yeah we do!

ETA:  I haven't been weaning DS, I just couldn't deal with the pain the past two weeks from his clamp nursing from teething so I've kind of been redirecting him.  I know that if I didn't redirect him and if I stop doing it he'll go back to nursing as much as he wants.  The soothie gel pads only help so much with the pain.

  • I haven't been weaning DD either ... she just apparently thinks my boobs suck and doesn't want anything to do with them for the past week and a half (except for some naps). :(

Regardless, the calorie watching thing sucks!

  • A friend of mine had  alot of success with a diet plan that promoted eating smaller meals throughout the day - and making sure those meals had some good protein, complex carbs, etc.  It was really a very responsible and reasonably healthy diet - she said didn't end up getting as hungry, and therefore didn't feel the need to eat as much at meals.  I don't know all of the details, obviously, but I could try and find more if you were interested.  I have heard other places that our bodies were probably meant more for smaller meals throughout the day, though.

  • Yeah it does.  I don't know how I'm going to do it.  I'll just have to start being incredibly mindful.  I'll figure out what to eliminate from my diet that I don't need and start with those things first and then work on the calories second.  Although, it'll probably go hand in hand.
  • I've noticed that too...started the 30 Day Shred...

  • I gained 10 lbs after DD stopped nursing, and I know its because I was eating like a nursing mom.

I started WW 2 weeks ago, its *realllllly* helping me with portion control!
