3rd Trimester

comment at gym this am

so i was in the locker room after my workout this morning, and this lady and her friend come by me and look at me all crazy. seriously- like i had 3 heads or something. and then she proceeds to say 'aren't you scared?' um...what? i say... and she's like aren't you scared of working out while you're pregnant? what do you do? are you sure it's ok? blah blah blah.

i proceeded to tell her no, that i wasn't scared, and it's actually quite good for you. some people, yikes! i was really pretty much at a loss for words trying to make sense of her nonsense.  Sad

Re: comment at gym this am

  • I got that yesterday. I was on a treadmill and a woman got in front of me and started waving her arms so I'd take stop my music and listen to her. She was like, "Aren't you worried about your water breaking while you're on there? Or hurting the baby?!"

  • You're not alone: I've gotten some weeeeird stares at the gym...and I'm usually just walking on a treamill! I don't know if people think that pregnancy=illness or what, but they're definitely not shy w/their opinions!

(FWIW, your post is really timely for me: I just finished reading one of my favorite blogs, dooce.com, and the latest post is on this exact topic!) =)?

  • Why are people so concerned about pregnant women working out?  I've never understood it.  People always look at me funny when I say I do my elliptical every night, probably b/c they haven't worked out in years though Stick out tongue

  • Everyone at our gym is gay and male.  I don't get too many looks or comments....

i know! i did get props from a woman the other day. she said she worked out thru both of her pregnancies, and had great, quick birth experiences with both. so that was nice to hear!

Yikes, sorry to hear that so many people are getting negativity at their gym. Everyone at mine, staff and members, are hugely supportive. I get nothing but smiles, and occasionally a women stopping me to tell me how great it is that I'm active and how much I'll appreciate it in labor.
