High-Risk Pregnancy

How high is too high for BP?

I've been on Labetelol 100 mg twice daily for most of my pregnancy (I also have Lupus which is why i'm high risk). at my last appt was the 1st time since being on the meds that my BP was considered high. i think it was like 133/90. so, i was told to take my BP at home. i just found my BP cuff and have taken it twice in the last hour. i've been laying down doing nothing and it read 143/82 and 145/85.

i'm wondering if this is cause to call the doc. it sounds high to me but i'm not a doctor. what would u do?

thanks!

Re: How high is too high for BP?

  • My doctor told me to focus on the bottom number.  Yours seems to be getting lower then at the visit to the doctor.

Also, your home cuff may be off a little.

  • Usually 140/90 is the cutoff between normal and high BP.

  • When I delievered (hellp/eclampsia) mine were 200s/120s.  I was on BR for 8 weeks with no Labateol and 140s/90s were ok by my doctor because I had no other symptoms (protein in urine, spots, swelling, etc.).

My doc told me to call right away if my blood pressure was above 140/90.
  • I was monitoring mine at home because it was high.. it kept creaping higher so I called the nurse one day and said, what exactly is the holy crap, this is too high number.... i think it really varies based on your baseline that you set during pg. so I would probably call the dr office and ask them at what point is it cause for alarm.
  • yeah 140/90 is consider technically high.

you really focus on your bottom number. 85 isn't that bad.

when I went in and ended p being induced it was 211/115

they rushed in and padded my bed rails in case I had a seizure. yeah....not fun.

I think as long as your are not having severe headache, blurry vision, pain in belly, extreme swelling, you are ok. But it never hurts to call.
