BF Anxiety

Anyone else? I am reading a book on BF and the more I read the more scared I get. I BF my first DD and had a very hard time so I didn't BF my second DD. I want to give it a shot with DS but the more I read the more scared I get. Yikes!

Re: BF Anxiety

  • *raises hand*  I'm so nervous that it won't go well because I so desperately want to breastfeed.  At the same time, I'm totally scared at the fact that only I can provide food for the kid and I'm vain and wonder what it will do to my boobs!

  • I'm not really nervous about actually breastfeeding, I'm nervous about the whole being on demand to feed all the time and feeling like I'm still pregnant in the can't really just have a night out aspect. Ya know?
  • Me! It's crazy how something so natural can be so overwhelming. I've been surrounding myself with information and luckily my hospital has an LC on staff who holds weekly meetings but I'm still anxious about it.
  • I'm not anxious... I'm pretty set on doing it. ?But I think it's important for you to have a good support team who's going to encourage you. ?My DH is really?adamant?about it and I have a BFF who's a BFing guru. ?It helps to have people around you who can help and support.?

I desperately want to breastfeed successfully BUT I'm scared about being the sole provider for our kid's food (how draining will this be on me emotionally, physically, mentally?) and I'm vain so I worry about what's going to happen to the appearance/shape of my breasts!

  • i've been really worried about it too. the fact that both mother and baby have to actually learn how to do it properly frightens me, and i think most people think it should be easy/natural or whatever. that just means more pressure to get it right, and if you don't then people that don't know how hard it is wonder why and make you feel bad. i think it's going to take a while to learn to do but i'm really determined to get it right, no matter how many times i have to see an LC.

    this.

I know that BF is the best option for babies, but sometimes I see those moms with the formula fed babies and they can just pour, shake, and service.... seems so much less hassle?

  • Just remember ladies...it WILL get easier. The beginning is tough but you can do it.  Just find support and give it your best shot.

You are already doing great providing food for your babies inside, it just transitions to being on the outside when you BF  =)

And you can have a night out...that's what a pump and bottles are for.  We have regular date nights without any trouble.

  • I was so nervous with DD that I think that is what made me succeed, I wanted to prove to myself and everyone that I could do it.. just stick with it.  Also, its not Bfing that makes you droopy, it good ol' mother nature.  A couple good push up bras and you're back to your 20's boobs.
