2nd Trimester

Are you coming back to work..

after the little one is born?

I always thought that I will come back, but now I am debating about it. I kind of want to take one year off and see how it goes, but at this point I'll take my maternity leave then probably come back to work and see how it goes and I might just get paid for my maternity leave and then work for a month or so and leave to stay with my little one. I just can't imagine missing all the cute things, first smile, first laugh, how the baby will turn, first steps.

How about you?

If you are coming back to work, who will stay with your baby while you are at work?

  • Going back because DH is out of work, but if he get's a job (he has a Master's degree & I don't so he has the potential to make more $) than I will quit and stay home.

  • **tear** I do have to go back to work after only 6 weeks.  That is all we can afford.

Luckily my dad retired this year and has offered to watch the little one for 5 hrs each day (which is all our schedules need). Helps us both, he isn't so bored, and I have someone I know/love/trust.

  • Yes but I work part time from home and have either a nanny or my MIL here to watch the kiddos.  It is really a wonderful situation.

Definitely going back to work, we need both incomes. I am very happy that my mom will be watching the baby while we work. I really don't know if I could handle leaving her with complete strangers. As far as missing certain milestones, unfortunately it's a sacrifice a lot of women have to make.
  • Going back to work after leave. My pay is larger than DH's and we need it. Family will be taking care our our little guy.
  • Yep I will be coming back after my 12 week leave.  I wish I could do only part time but unless DH gets a great job I don't think that is going to be an option.

  • I will be "going back to work" but work for me involves watching my 16 month old niece at my house, so I will still be with baby all day.?

I have 6 weeks off before my niece comes back to me, though.?

  • I will be back to work, yes. Daycare situations are not yet final, waiting on a few things first!

  • Unfortunately, I have to.  I'll work from home 2 days.  DH will work from home one day.  The other 2 will either be a friend who stays home with her 1 year old (still trying to convince her) or a daycare if we can find one to take her part time.

  • i'm pretty lucky in the aspect that my boss is my mom. so after my 12 weeks i'll be going back 1-2 days a week and working the rest from home. my grandmother will probably be with the baby while i'm at work. either that or i'll take LO in with me.

  • depends on work situation. I am still working as an intern but I am hopeful to have a regular staff position here soon. If that's the case, I plan to go back to work after 12 weeks (unpaid). Otherwise, I will be staying at home or work PT since it would be a wash with daycare and the pay that I currently receive.
  • DH works from home and I make my own minimal work hours at my salon. I will plan on taking a few weeks off and then going back for one client a day (three hours a day).?

DH will watch baby while I'm at work, and my grandparents live a block away to help in emergency situations.

  • Nope. I'm retiring to hopefully have several kids and enjoy every last second with them. We'll be broke, but it will definintely be worth it.
  • no, because i hate my job. although i am hoping to start my own little small business in time so i will return to work one day.
  • Unfortunatly yes, I will be returning somewhere between 8-10 weeks after LO is born. We have a daycare lady that will watch the baby, she watched DS also, and I trust her.
  • I don't have a choice at first, because DH will be finishing up law school, so mine is the only income. Once he starts working though, I'm honestly not sure - my take-home pay is actually LESS than a lot of the daycare centers in NYC.

  • After my 12 weeks of maternity leave, yes I will be coming back to work. I make more $ than DH and with the extra expenses of having a child AND a house, we can't live off one income. The LO will be going to daycare, which we still need to tackle.

  • Yes. And I am darn proud of it. There is nothing wrong with being a working mother. Lots of ladies do it. Sure I will miss baby but in the long run it will be worth it for everyone around. Luckily the daycare I am using my MIL works at. I also know all the workers there so it's not like it's strangers.
  • I have to come back full-time.

He'll be in daycare 4 days per week & staying with his Gram one day.

  • I planned on being a SAHM, but yesterday was offered a pt time job that would be 10 hours a week and pay 50% of my full time teacher's salary! I think I might be taking that...

  • I will be staying home. I was going to go back to work because I nanny and the ppl I nanny for wouldn't have mind if I took the baby with me.  However they are due a week after me and the little one I watch now 2 and half has diabetes so it would be pretty busy and we all said it would be too much.  Unless they need me a day here and there I'm not working.
  • :-( Yes. ?I would love to work part-time or SAH full time for the first year, but neither of those is an option. ?If I take any leave past my FMLA, my benefits lapse, and I carry the benefits in the family. ?Maybe one day I'll be able to SAH, but not while this LO is a baby.

  • Yup. Can't afford to stay home, unfortunately. And I barely get any time off... I will be back to working from home, at least part time, pretty much right away :(
  • I will be leaving my job to stay home. We'll have to cut back on things- and, *gasp*, get rid of cell phones and some other "luxuries", but it is so worth the sacrifice. I am ready to be home with my kids fulltime for a full year and then look for something part-time- I know I will want something to get me out of the house and I like knowing I'm contributing financially.
  • I will be going back to work( sucks) I am really not sure how this maternity leave works, since we dont have one here were i work, but a friend that just came back said that she took disability so i am not sure maybe ill be out for 6-8 weeks. I am still asking around to see how this works we definetly need the extra income! Pregnancy Ticker
  • I will be going back after the baby gets his 2 month shots and can go to "school" with his sister.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was so sad that I wasn't going to be able to be a SAHM.  Now that she is a toddler, there is no way I could be a SAHM and my hat is off to those that can!  She gets really bored with me and I can only chase her around for so long.  Wink  I think daycare is GREAT for her!  She gets to interact with other kids all day long, they teach her things, and she is on a great schedule.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • 12 weeks off, then back to work full time. I am in a great situation where I work from home 100%, and my mom is willing to be the full time 'nanny'. LO will probably start day care a couple times a week at 6 months and move into full time gradually so grandma is not tied my kid forever (grandparents like to travel).

I will be going back to work after my year off.  We have it pretty good in Canada.  I get full pay for 15 weeks and 55% for the other 40.  When that comes up we'll see how hubby is doing, and we're already looking into starting our own business, so if that pans out in the next 15 months, then I won't have to go back to my job, but we can split the time between us at our own business.  We'll see, here's to hoping everything works out!!
