Any suggestions on where to find preemie clothes?

We want Megan Grace to have some outfits but she is going to be very small.  Right now she is only projected to weigh about 1.5 pounds so at birth she will likely be hovering around 2 pounds or 3 at the very most.

How, where do you find clothes this small?

Re: Any suggestions on where to find preemie clothes?

  • I don't know how small preemie clothes are, so they may still be too big for your little babe, but they have had a selection at the Carter's outlets when I have been. I don't know about other places b/c I have never actually looked for them.

  • Do you have anybody that could make some clothes for you? If I ever have a girl I want to have a dress made for her out of the material from my wedding dress. That might be a really special way for you to have a really nice dress for her. I would think if you had it made to fit a baby doll (like a cabbage patch sized one) that it would fit good. Just a suggestion.

  • We were going to do the wedding dress thing but there ended up being too many variables due to her condition.

Baby dolls clothes.  That is a good suggestion and something I had not thought of before.

    Thanks!

  • I know I've seen a small section of them at BRU.  But I'm not sure how small they actually are.  Baby doll clothes is a good suggestion.

  • Like pp have said, I'm not sure if the preemie clothes would be too big. However, Belks at Crabtree has a few preemie clothes.

  • FYI- Cabbage Patch dolls clothes are actually pretty big.  So definitely look for something smaller.

Even preemie clothes are going to be huge on Megan.  They were really big on Eli and he was over 3 lb.  They had a decent selection at BRU, and I even found some at Wal-Mart.  I would definitely try to find some small baby doll clothes, just not Cabbage Patch.

Here he is when we brought him home, close to 5 lb, in a preemie outfit.  See how his feet don't even go down into the feet?

  • Thanks everyone!  Now I just have to figure out where to get baby doll clothes?
  • For higher quality doll clothes you might have some luck with American Girl and their Bitty Baby line.  My little sisters have these dolls and the clothes feel good and not scratchy/rough.

  • Yep--I agree with Mikey--preemie clothes will be too big. ?Scott was 4lbs, 6oz at birth and he still swam in preemie clothes at first. ?We did some sleep sack type clothes and rolled up the sleeves which wasn't too bad. ?I don't know where to find doll clothes. ?If you haven't already, I'd suggest posting on the preemies board--they are a group of very helpful ladies!

  • Bensbride~ Thank you!  There is a set of three onesie type outfits I may get that would be perfect.

Also, I've posted on the preemies board but so far I haven't gotten any responses.  I'm about to pop back over there to see if there are any now.

  • The preemie board is kinda slow, just so you know.  But I'm sure you'll get some replies eventually.

  • I found this site... It looks like there are several resources online if you search "micro preemies". GL...

  • Hughes that site is great.  Holy cow expensive :0
  • Yep -- these ladies are all right in that preemie clothes will prob be too big. They were too big even for Caroline who was almost six pounds.

Some of those micro preemie clothes are way too cute. I love those dresses. So sweet!

  • Walmart has the Garanimals clothing line that has premie clothes-that's where we got Avery's clothes. And she was 6lbs, 1oz when born (not a premie) and the clothes were pretty big!

And I agree with Mikey, the cabbage patch dolls are pretty big...bigger than Avery was as a NB! GL!
