My first appt is Monday. ?I will be 9 weeks 4 days. ?I know every dr / appt is different, but on average how long did your first visit last? ?What can I expect? ?At this stage, do you think I will get an US or just the doppler?
my first appointment today-lasted around 40 minutes-but that included lab working and waiting for all that. dr. tried a doppler but got nothing which we figured she would get! so back in 4 weeks for the hb.
My doctor's office schedules the first visit between 8-10 weeks along and ours lasted about an hour (inclucing wait time). Our doctor's office had one of those portable vaginal u/s machines, so we got to see the heartbeat on the u/s. She also did the standard pap test, breast exam, chatted a bit, then did the urine samples, and blood drawn for the more tests.
i see you responded to my post before-so i'll try to expand. my nurse called me in first-she asked background questions about pg histories in my fam and dh's fam. (you answer what you know). then she did blood pressure (which will be done at every appointment-so wear a t-shirt). i would have had a pelvic exam, but i just had my annual in mid April so didn't need to have it done. so you might prepare for that. Then Dr. felt my uterus-via internal and external pushing/touch. listened to my lungs and hb. checked my ears and throat. basic physical type stuff.
My Dr. tests for STDs including HIV which is why I had 5 vials of blood drawn. Dr. and I talked-I asked her a couple questions about my carpul tunnel syndrome which has already acted up. I peed in a cup-which again is every appointment.
The first one lasts longest-compared to some others. obviously us and glucose test will take awhile, but some are in/out and done in 10 minutes.
hope that helps. go prepared with questions.
oh yea dr. tried the doppler, but it was still a little early-cuz even though according to lmp i am 8.5 weeks-according to when we had sex i'm probably more like 6.
well, i was only 6 weeks at mine. it was about 15 minutes. all i did was pee in a cup, answer medical questions, ask doc any questions i had, and then went off to lab to do bloodwork. you might get an US, i had my first vaginally at 8 weeks!!!
Re: How long did your first appt last?
2 hours
But that includes meeting with the business office, doing a full history, the exam, and lab work. I'm sure every doctor's office is different.
