  I use oils - currently a probably not so ef otc brand name orange oil thing but once I FINALLY (in like a million years) run out of that, I plan to switch to olive oil with some lemon. I think that Pledge spray is a waxy base.

  Have you tried the olive oil and lemon? Does it not go rancid? 

  I'd love to use reals oils...  and would they work on IKEA style furniture?

  Pledge has silicones and other chemicals in it (if you ever want to paint or refinish your wood it adds a whole 'nother layer of complexity to the process). I NEVER use Pledge or similar products.

  Usually I just use a slightly damp microfiber cloth and occasionally I use a Murphy's Oil Soap mixture. 

   PS - when we moved into our house the previous people left a boatload of various cleaning supplies - I've just freecycled those that I knew I would never use in batches (like 3 opened liquid fabric softeners, or 2 wood polish sprays, etc).
