Has anyone had a child born at 31 weeks? What were some of the complications you faced and how long did your DC have to stay in the hospital. Also what was attempted in order to stop labor? I have went into preterm labor during both pregnancies. I went into labor with DS#1 at 27 weeks and they were able to stop labor, he ended up being born at 39 weeks. I am currently 31 weeks and was just relesed form the hospital for preterm labor. I have been taking terb and now my contractions are starting again. I will be heading to L&D in a few and I am just concerned. Thank you!!
Re: Babies born at 31 weeks
I had HELLP Syndrome, so a different scenario from yours. My DS was born at 32 weeks. He needed CPAP (ventilator) for a few days, then oxygen for another week...he had jaundice, anemia and a low white cell count (related to HELLP). He had a Level 1 IVH (brain hemmorage, common in preemies) which has since resolved. He also has reflux and had Group B Strep which developed into sepsis and then bacterial meninigitis at 6 weeks. He was in the NICU for 4 weeks (most of the time to gain weight - "feeder/grower") and then the PICU for 2 weeks for the GBS.
He is now a happy, healthy almost 11 month old and is caught up developmentally.
Good luck to you and we are here if you need support, advice, etc.
Luca was born at 31w1d due to placental abruption. He was in the NICU for 6 weeks and is now 12 weeks actual. We were incredibly lucky and had very few health problems.... basically, he was a "feeder and grower" so we just battled with him learning how to nurse. Once he could take all his feedings by bottle/breast, he was out. Today, he's healthy and growing so quickly! He even passed full-term 2 month development milestones at his last doctor's appointment! Good luck to you!
