Pregnant after a Loss

go ahead flame me...

My husband isn't speaking to me regarding naming our child because he isn't getting his way..I think it should be a joint decision...is anyone else going through this? Or am I the only one?

Re: go ahead flame me...

  • I don't think you're going to get flamed for this - it should definitely be a joint decision.  Your DH is being a big baby.

  • I think it should be a joint decision. DH and I would go back and forth over boy names and I would get really frustrated because he shot down all the names I liked. Its so hard deciding. Maybe wait until you know what you're having..it might make it easier. I'm sorry you guys are having a hard time. Just know that you aren't along...its a big deal!

My DH and I did.  Although it was regaurding a boys name and we wound up having a girl!

Either way we got into a huge argument because he HAD to name his son John Joseph after his dad and grandpa.  I didn't want two John's in the family and suggested Johnathan.  Nope had to be John.  And he kept saying JJ and I HATE JJ.  So in the end we comprimised and he agreed on Johnathan and I would have to accept if people called him JJ later in life although DH agreed to politely ask people to not call him that as a baby.

It sounds much more tame writing it out than it really was.  This was like a 2 day argument!

  • Personally, I think the final decision should rest with the person doing all the work---that'd be YOU, momma!  Your DH is acting like a spoiled brat.
  • My DH & I fought fiercely about two things: our wedding guest list and names. I think it may require an arbitrator given the way we deal with it:-)

  • It's a joint decision, he's being a babypants.
  • And just so everyone knows...its a boy we found out thats what we are having today he wants it to be John David E****** the 4th and I'm just not having it so I said to change the middle name and to call it by its middle name and I was told that it was EFFing stupid and to just forget and he won't speak to me, it pouting stomping his feet and slamming doors, you have no idea how much I want to yell grow up!!
  • I cant imagine anyone flaming you for that!  You are totally right.  The naming of a child should be a joint decision.  DH and I made a list of our top ten names and then took any that appeared on both under consideration.  It narrowed down a girls name for us (Riley Anne) but we are still torn between a lot of boys names.
  • I agree it should be a joint decision. ?That being said, DH named all 3 of his kids from his 1st marriage so I also think my vote should hold a little more weight than his since this will be my only biological child.

Are you kidding me????  Wow, that pisses me off and it didn't even happen to me! haha.  You just send him this way and I'll straighten him out for you :)  Haha personally I think that we should have the ultimate say so since we're the ones carrying the child!

In all honesty this should be a joint decision.  Thankfully DH was understanding when I said we wouldn't be using his name if it was a boy (he comes from a long line of men with the same first name).

oh geez, grow up!  I understand the importance of a "family name" but that "the fourth" nonsense is nms, either.  In our family we name all the first boys "James" and the middle name is "Edward" every other generation.  Fortunately this is my brother's problem, not mine.  I think having a different middle name is a great compromise.  I think he needs time to mourn the idea of having another "John David" and hopefully he'll come around.

He might want to learn how to act like an adult....he's going to be a father! That's crazy.
