This name and Madeline always confuse me. If Madeline is pronounced mad-a-lyn, then why is Adeline pronounced add-a-line? And if that is the proper pronunciation of Madeline, then how do you spell mad-a-line? And if Adelyn is pronounced add-a-line then how do you spell add-a-lyn?

I think I just gave myself a headache.
Madeline is pronounced Mad-a-line
Madelyn is pronounced Mad-a-lyn?
Just like Caroline is Care-oh-line and Carolyn is Care-oh-lyn
Adelyn is pronounced Add-ah-lyn and Adeline is pronounced Add-ah-line?
Sorry, agree with most of the posters here. Add-ah-line. If you like the sound of Add-ah-leen, or Add-ah-lynn would you be open to changing the spelling? That way the name does not get mis-pronounced. I think Adelynn is really pretty if you like the sound of that name.
Re: How do you pronounce Adeline?
I would pronounce it as Ad-e-line
Ditto.
Ad-a-line or Ad-e-line is what I've heard
Double Ditto
this & i love this name!
Hee, this. I was going to say it made me want to suggest "for only $9.99" as a mn.

LOL! Yes, exactly!
I would say the third.
I always thought that caroline was LINE but we have a caroline at work who is LIN. Confuses me. The E in either name should make the i a long i.
