Article on how much weight preggy women should gain

UMMM, isn't it hazardous to someone's health to tell a pregnant woman how much weight they should gain? Here is an article that says guidelines have been set.

  • Wow. IMHO they need to stop focusing on how much weight one should or shouldn't gain and focus on your eating habits and the amount of physical activity you should be doing.

That said. I gained 40+lbs and ate ice cream. Daily. But I'm working on getting it all off and Maddy seems relatively healthy. =)

  • This kind of crap just makes women who are in my boat feel worse...I keep losing weight.  I am down almost 10 lbs right now and so it makes me feel like I am a bad host for my baby right now.

  • I agree with you ladies. I gained a total of 30 lbs, including the weight I lost from my m/s. Personally I think it should be up to the woman and her doc. With my first pregnancy I gained 40 of the 45 my doc wanted me to gain. I ate ice cream every day with both.
  • I gained 50+ and honestly.. I did not pig out. Izzie seems fine, although I am having trouble losing the last 7-8 pounds (for a YEAR).

I think though, with the next one, I will really try to gain less weight.

  • They just had someone speaking about this on the radio and she said it's really not about pregnancy weight gain as much as the fact that over half the population of women that get PG are overweight to begin with...which can lead to GD, high blood pressure and other complications. I'm not sure why they are taking this approach to deal with the obesity epidemic in the US, but she said that was the main motivation.

As in if they are overweight before pregnancy, they gain "too much" and don't lose it all after so they are more overweight at the end of it and that's what the problem is according to them.

She pretty much said everyone should have a healthy BMI before getting pregnant. Period. It was rather absurd, to be honest. Of all places to focus on in terms of obesity in the US, I think pregnancy is the last places they should be addressing.

I agree. I understand why they are trying to address the issue. Just think they are going at it in the wrong direction.

    I have to ditto this!

And on a side note, I really dislike the "word" preggy...and preggers and preggo too.

I hope I didn't offend you guys?  I really didn't mean for it to if I did, I was just expressing my frustration over the weight issue and being told what I should and shouldn't be doing.

With my luck I am gonna gain it all back plus 60 lbs though.
