I was curious if you only have a chance of having twins if they run on the woman's side of the family? I get mixed answers. I feel like I am obsessing about having twins. Not even pregnant yet. LOL.
family history only matters on the twins' mother's side. ?That being said, a woman ( the twins' mother) can inherit the gene to drop multiple eggs from her father's side of the family (say if her father's sister or mother had twins). ?If your husband's family has twins all the time it won't make a difference to YOUR ability/predisposition to have twins - it may affect your daughter's ability to do so in the future.... ?this is why there's that theory that twins tend to skip a generation. ?Did that make sense?
If it's in the mans family, he can pass that gene to his daughter. If your dads family had twins you have a chance, if your DH's family has twins then your daughter may have a chance, but it wouldn't increase your chances more than anyone elses (you have to have the gene to release more than one egg).

Ditto. My daughter better prepare herself since I had two sets of twins (one fraternal, one identical) and her father is a twin! (although he's an identical so I don't know where that stands)

That's so amazing you had both frat and ID twins! I wouldn't think your H being an ID twin would affect your DD's chance of having twins ... but yeah, based on you I'd say she should prepare herself!
And to the OP: ditto the PP's, they explained it well.

My mother is a twin. My father is a twin. I inherited the gene for producing multiple eggs from both my maternal and paternal grandmothers.
My daughter will likely carry the same gene. My son will likely carry the same gene which can be passed on to his daughter.
