bellybutton update

Thanks for the responses in my post about Joshua's bellybutton a few days ago.  I did end up calling the Ped, not necessarily due to him having an outtie, but because the center of the bellybutton still looked gooey and like it was not healing correctly.  I took him into the Ped yesteday. Turns out it was umbilical granuloma.  It is nothing serious, but does need to be treated by the Ped and it will not heal correctly on its own. SO she said it was good that I brought him in.

btw- he does have an outtie and she said it looked perfectly fine, no cause for concern (eventhough she agreed it is a big outtie).  She said usually outties turn into innies (or atleast not as protuding of an outtie) by the time they are 2 years old.

Re: bellybutton update

  • Good to hear! Not good that there was something going on, but good that it's not too much to worry about and has a more or less easy solution.

  • Rhett had the same thing! Totally unrelated to the weird piece of intestine that sticks out, he also had the granuloma. They put that silver nitrate stuff (I'm probably calling it the wrong thing) on and then it healed right up after that. I'm glad it is something that is easily treatable!

  • Glad your mother's intuition was right to go in, and that there's an easy fix!

And hopefully his Big Outtie goes down!

  • I missed the op, but great Mommy instincts there!

Glad to hear it's easily treatable!

  • Hmm, do you have a picture of his belly button? Now I'm concerned about DD's.
