Ok...So I am cluessless! I don't know how maternity leave works but I do know at my work I get 6 weeks paid. We are planning on me staying home after our little one gets here so I will be a SAHM if all works out. My question is...I think it would be great to get that extra 6 weeks of pay before I quit! But how do you handle the resignation. Would I have to come back to work for 2-3 weeks to work out a notice or what?
Re: Maternity Leave Question
You definitely need to check your company's policy. Are there any or ladies there that have had babies and have experience w/ the leave policy?
At my old job, if you took paid maternity leave, you had to return to work for I think 60 or 90 days, else you would be required to repay any benefits (inclduing salary, and possibly health care costs that were covered by insurance). So most definitely find out.
If you absolutely don't want to come back at all, it may be best just resign around the time of your EDD. It would suck though b/c you wouldn't get the pay. Would the pay be worth any childcare costs you'd incur for being back at work a couple months? Or maybe there's a family member that could help out during that time.
HTH.
