What can I do to get more energy??

I just found out 3 days ago that I am pregnant with baby #3.  Already I am so exhausted.  I can't be exhausted though.  Not only do I have a 2yo and a 4yo to keep up with, we move in 5 days and I still have a good amount to pack.  I try to get up and pack a box here or there but it's just not really happening.  Yesterday I took a power nap on the couch while my 2yo watched Barney.  I feel terrible about being so exhausted.  I never experienced the exhaustion this early before.  Plus I have killer morning sickness already.  Any thoughts on what I can do short of sleeping all day to get more energy?  Normally I would turn to my coffee for a little pick-me-up, but I'm not drinking the stuff anymore.

Well, I would actually go ahead and have a little bit of coffee or half-caf, but if you don't want to do that...

Nap, eat often, and enlist help. You can only fight it so much. GL

  • Vitamin B complex supplement. But check with your doc first to make sure it is ok for your pregnancy.

  • I'd go ahead and have that coffee.  A little is fine and it sounds like you need it.

I'm in a similar situation.  We just found out recently that I'm pregnant with #3.  It was a very happy surprise!  I already have a 1 year old and an almost 3 year old.  DH started a new job in Jan that has him commuting an hour and forty minutes each way.  So days here are long.  And we have our house on the market and I have to keep it in good enough shape for showings.  This Sunday we haven an open house.  I'm just praying we sell soon so we can hurry up and move before baby comes and things get really hard.  :)
  • Jersey girl, I feel like we are living parallel lives! I commute 1 hr 15 mins + each way, and we have a house on the market too! (Except we have already moved, so we are dealing with 2 mortgages). Where in Jersey are you? North or South?

  • I was surprised with baby #3 too.  I can not believe the exhaustion.  It's exhausting ;)!!!  I have a 3 year old and 1 year old at home too.  Working full time, etc.  And, on top of the exhaustion is the horrible all day sickness.  I usually LOVE coffee but it's been grossing me out this pregnancy. Anyway, started having one can of coke a day and am feeling much better!

     Good luck and congrats!!

  • Make sure you are getting enough protein in your diet and eating well, in general. I feel so weak when I haven't eaten well. This is my third pregnancy, too. My oldest is 7 and in second grade so I don't have to run after her all day but my two year old is something else. It is not easy and sometimes I resent the grandparents not being around to help more. Don't they remember how hard it was?!

  • Probably unrealistic advice with all your responsibilities, but if you can swing it try exercising.  I was SO tired and achey yesterday and forced myself to go to the gym and felt so much better after.  Gave me a natural nenergy boost.  It's hard to get going but once you do it's all good.
  • With everything you have going on, it's probably the last thing on your mind, but as long as you're getting enough sleep and eating well, I would say to get a little bit of exercise.  Maybe take a brisk walk or something.  I'm definitely feeling exhaustion too between work and life, but I also teach Jazzercise and it definitely makes me feel energized during and after - even when I was totally exhausted and did NOT want to teach!  Hope the exhausion passes quickly!
