North Carolina Babies

**Mikey**

I forgot to mention this yesterday. You may already be doing this with Eli, but I know it really helped Ashley start walking. My DH and I would sit on the floor facing each other and one of us would have Ashley. We would push/guide her to walk/take steps towards the other. Then we would scoot a little further apart and guide her to take steps between us again. We would cheer for her and give her hugs and kisses when she walked to us. Eventually, she was walking the whole length of the room. She loved it and was so excited to walk to us. We started doing this with her every day and within days, she was able to walk the whole room and then she was taking steps without us encouraging her. Like I said, you may already be doing this with Eli, but I know it really helped Ashley get moving :)

  • Someone else just suggested this to me!  We kinda do this, but not everyday.  We need to start doing it more consistently.  I encourage him to walk to me if he's holding onto something, and that's when he takes his 2 steps.  But if I back up, he just crawls.  But he gets SO excited when I catch him, it's so much fun!

  • Someone from my Bradley class did this with their son, and it also worked for him.  DH and I have tried it a little, and I think it pisses Nate off.  LOL  He is like "Uh... I see what you're doing here and I'm not going for it."  I've kind of given up on encouraging him to walk (other than holding his hand and walking with him, which I do all the time).  I'll try once a day or so to see if he'll take some steps, but it frustrates Nate (and me) so I just give up.  I figure he'll do it when he wants and until then I'm going to try not to worry about it.
  • If it is frustrating them, I would not do it, I think that they are just not ready. With Ashley, she really enjoyed it. We would do it a few times a day and there were definitely times when she was less interested than others, so we would stop and try again later. But we did see progress very quickly. But she was 19 months old, so I think she was ready :)
