My Husband says that EVERYONE believes a circumcision is the smartest thing to do. I really don't have an opinion yet. Is anyone deciding not to do this? If I knew how to create a clicky poll I would.
Ugh, I really dont' want to see or get into another circumcision debate. There are reasons behind both decisions. There are many people on this board who will not be circumcising, it is not common in other parts of the world & is considered purley cosmetic.
That beign said we will eb circumcision because DH was NOT and devlepoed a lot of problems, he was circumcised at 9 years old & remembers it & would rather have hsi son doen as a newborn then the possibility of that.
No right or wrong its very personal!

I'm choosing to circumsize, but I'm shocked at the amount of people who are choosing not to. I guess it doesn't really bother me either way, but I am always surprised to see how many people are on both sides of the fence with that one.
No no no, I will not circumsize my son and 40% of America agrees, it's not a taboo thing to keep your child intact anymore. Ppl realize it has no medical benefits and really why do that to your child if there is no need?
Tell your DH that it's not that weird to think this way, even my OB said that ppl are opting out more and more due to it doesn't have any real benefits.
Side note: I've known a couple people personally and heard stories about men who chose to get themselves circumcised as adults because their parents didn't do it when they were little.
I'll put it this way.... I've heard lots of uncircumcised men say they wish their parents had had it done when they were babies. I've never heard a circumcised man say he wished his parents hadn't had it done.
I don't really have a strong opinion either way, but I know uncut men tend to catch a lot of grief as teenagers.

It's personal preference...not everyone thinks it's the smartest thing to do. You'll find that a lot of people just do not think it's necessary or they want it to be their decision when they grow-up.
That being said, we're going to do it. WE believe it's easier to take care of, and won't be teased in the locker room/future girlfriends as it does tend to be the more popular method. Plus, DH is circumcised.
We are still on the fence but my OB told me today that the American Academy of Pediatrics just switched their opinion and are not recommending circumcision. although it is a personal decision not EVERYONE is doing it.
Your husband is daft. Sorry but there it is. Many choose not to do so as there is no medical reason for it as an infant really (that can obviously change later in life). In fact, some insurance companies bill it as a cosmetic procedure. We are circumcising but due to DH's poor genes (there is a direct family history of medically required adult male circumcisions). My sister opted not to for her DS as did DH's cousin for his. No big deal, just a personal preference. But the line that "everybody is doing it" is just dumb.

Read "The Joy of Uncircumsizing" or go look up UNCIRC and you'll read thousands of letters from men who wish they hadn't been circumsized, just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it isn't true. And on my end I've known quite a few uncircumsized men and they can't imagine anyone cutting a viable peice of flesh off of child who can't make the decision for himself.

I'm having girls, but both of my boys were circumcized. While I agree that it is up to the parent, there are increased possibilities of medical problems down the line. I had a friend in college who had to get circumcized at the age of 20 due to infection, a nephew who couldn't get circumcized because my sister's insurance considered it cosmetic who now gets infections, and another friend in college who found that he had to wash that area a lot more frequently because the extra skin tends to trap urine when he uses the bathroom. To me, the benefit is avoiding those extra possibilities. It really pains me to hear my nephew screaming because every time he pees, it burns as a result of the infections.

Whoa... easy there. I'm sure there are plenty of men who have that perspective. I just haven't personally talked to any of them. My post clearly says that I don't have a strong personal preference. So back off a little will ya?

I don't want my son to try and have sex and get a weird look by a girl because he's not circumsized.
Ppl have told me that will happen and I just say if the girl hates him because he's the way nature intended and doesn't care about his personality, she wasn't worth it to begin with. :P

I wanna see your sources.
We're going to snip if we have a boy.
It's in most of the pg books I've read, wikipedia, "the joy of uncircumsion", here's a quote I found online from the Circumcision News Library:
"Nationally, the figure for infant circumcision
declined from 65 percent in 1980 to about 56 percent in
1997 and has been relatively stable since."
if/when we have a son I would want him circumcised. Completely aside from health reasons I PERSONALLY think penises that arent circumcised are weird looking lol. I know some people dont care either way but I just think they look better circumcised (as nice as a penis can look i guess) and would hate for him to feel awkward about himself later in life since it is so common.
Side note: I've known a couple people personally and heard stories about men who chose to get themselves circumcised as adults because their parents didn't do it when they were little.

i know someone who got circumcised at 18 and said it was awful bc when his penis would get slightly erect while he was sleeping it would rip stitches..OUCH. Dh, however, sometimes says he wishes he wasnt bc it takes away some sensation supposedly.
Oh and a random side-note, if you're thinking it "looks funny", if he just retracts his foreskin (it stays back until he puts it back over the head) it looks exactly the same when "happy". LOL!
My DH said one of his friends went through the surgery voluntarily in his twenties. He was tortured in the locker room in High School all the kids teased him and called him dog ***. I guess he is bitter towards his parents for not having it done when he was a baby and that it was very painful to go through as an adult. DH said 100% if we were having a boy the surgery WILL be done! It doesn't matter to me, but he definitely feels strongly about it.
I had no qualms about circumcising my LO but left the ultimate decision up to DH. He wasn't circumsized at birth but was at 7 y/o due to medical issues. We would much rather have the procedure done at birth.
Actually I had to look it up for a PP and it's actually 46%, so it's relatively even.
Yea, because Wikpedia is a great source. Sorry, I don't believe 40% for one second. My SIL is a maternity RN and she said it is very rare for a boy to not be circ. And there are easily 40 babies born every day. I call bullshiit.
To each their own, but if we have a boy it's not even a question. We will snip.

We will not. To each their own, but it seems like a form of genital mutilation to me. I know that sounds harsh, and others may have a different POV and I respect that. But we will definitely not.

I haven't had this discussion with my DH yet, but I will say that I prefer that our son is circumcised. DH is not and it has caused a lot of problems for both of us. I've heard stories of kids having to go in a couple years later, or like another post, at 9 years old to have it done and it was awful. I'd rather keep my son from having the issues we're encountering with my DH not being circumcised.

We're going to circumcise. I left it up to my husband, but that's the decision I would've made too. ?I've heard that a lot of people aren't doing it anymore, though. ?
If Cathleen would have ended up a Craig I would not have wanted it. The US really is the only place that does it so often other than for religious reasons.
We're not doing it... DH doesn't agree with it and we both agree that if it's not for religious reasons, then there's no real reason to do it anymore. ?As long as the parents are informed about cleanliness and teach their son this as well, there shouldn't be a problem. ?But, I strongly believe that a boy should be like his father... so since DH isn't,?neither?will DS.
Re: Please aswer this for DH..
We're doing it. I left it totally up to DH and he was 100% in favor.

Definitely NOT everyone!
In Europe, where we come from, almost nobody does, except for religious reasons! And we are not doing it as we find it medically unnecessary.?
Who is EVERYONE?
LOL... good question!
His mom? I'm confused.
I am guessing everyone he grew up with.
