Baby Showers

At home baby shower?

My friend Kate is hosting a baby shower. It was supposed to be at her new house but their closing date keeps getting moved around so I'm a little weary of having it there. I offered my house for it. Everyone on the guest list knows where my house is and most have been there before, plus I'm technically on bed rest so it'd be nice not to have to travel far. Is it bad to have it at my house though etiquette wise? I'm not hosting it just providing the location.

Re: At home baby shower?

  • I think that would be fine as long as you're up to it {cleaning, etc.}. It would be nice not to have to travel.?

  • There is no etiquette breach to have it at your home if you are not hosting.  Many times the host doesn't have a location to hold it.  My DD's was at her home.  Her BF lives quite a distance so it just made sense to have it at her home.  It was nice, too, because she had already had the baby so she didn't have to transport any of the gifts.

I do hope you can get someone else to come in and clean and get the house ready for guests...especially if you are on bedrest.

  • As others said, it's fine! Even if you weren't on bedrest, it'd be fine. Be sure to ask for help from DH or others in terms of cleaning before and afterward.
  • Sounds perfect.
