TTC After a Loss

I sadly join you girls...

Well, my 8 week u/s was planned for today but with uncanny timing, I miscarried last night.  The doctor said development stopped at about 6 weeks.

I am scheduled for a D&C tomorrow.  Wondering if D&C is common practice this early on?  My doctor seemed to prefer it over "waiting it out."

  • I am so sorry for your loss.

I had a missed miscarriage at about 8 weeks and I had a D&C the next day (we discovered the miscarriage at an u/s appointment).  My doctor insisted on a D&C because she was worried about bleeding.

  • I had 2 my 1st was at 9wks and the 2nd at 6wks, i chose to have it done i just wanted it over with, i figured personally waiting it out would just drag it and if everything didn't come out i would have to have a d&C anyway but again that was my choice.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I think if you want to wait it out, you should. That said, I opted to miscarry naturally and I bled on and off and passed tissue several times over the course of 3 months. I will not do that again, but in one sense I am glad that I had the time to grieve and process without jumping back into TTC.

  • I'm very, very sorry for your loss.
  • I'm soo sorry!  That is exactly what happened to me!  I understand how you are feeling and know that we are here for you.  You'll get through this.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your DH.

  • I am sorry for your loss.  I think it really depends on your doctor and what you want.  You may want some more time to process the whole thing.
  • I'm truly sorry for your loss. I don't know if this helps, but my OB did a couple of u/s and kept checking my betas to see how quickly they were dropping. After 2 weeks he was satisfied that I was M/C naturally. Up until that point he said a D&C might be an option, but he preferred not to and so did I.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I was at 14 weeks so had to have a d&C (baby measured 10w5d) so I'm not sure at 8 weeks what is normal. I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry.

  • I am sorry for your loss :(  I opted to have a D&C and it is a very common procedure.  I had a missed miscarriage and discovered it much like you did.  My little one had only developed to 6W and my body still thought I was pregnant which is why I opted to go for the D&C.  I was ready to begin the healing process.  Many **HUGS** to you.  We are all here whenever you need to vent...take care. <3
  • Hugs!  I am so sorry for your loss.

I had 2 m/c and both were natural.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss :-(
  • So sorry for your loss. My Dr said anything over 6 weeks he recommends a D&C. Welcome to the board!
  • So sorry to hear of your loss.  (((((((HUGS)))))))

I had a D&C with a blighted ovum at 8 wks (developed til 6 wks).  It helped me get things over with and move on..

  • I'm so sorry that you are having a loss. ::hugs:: I wish you didn't have to join us (meaning I wish you wouldn't have had a loss) and I hope your stay is short whenever you do start ttc again.

So sorry for your loss :-(

It depends, if the doc doesn't feel like you will pass it on your own or completely. I had a d&c with the first and just had a natural. The D&C is painless. If I were you, I'd ask to have the tissue tested for chromosomal abnormalities. Some, doc don't do this on the first loss but you can request it.

Let me know if you need anything. We are here for you.

    I'm also from NJ Wink

  • Thank you so much for your kind words!  I had dinner with a friend tonight and actually laughed and enjoyed myself as it got my mind off of this situation.  But now that it's just DH and me, the reality is front and center again.  It's comforting to have this board and I wish the best for all of you too!
