I wanted to love it, I really did, but it stained our grout so bad and leaves a sticky residue on the floor. Even steam cleaning the grout didn't get it all off. I wish they would sell it with a vinegar solution, I'd be allllll over that!
DH loves it but I don't like the sticky residue it leaves behind. I'll use the dry sweeper all the time but don't like the wet version.
I must be an idiot, but I've never noticed a sticky residue. Do ya'll use the pre-moistened pads or the spray. Although, lately I've been lazy and just spray bleach and then swiffer mop it up because I keep forgetting to buy more solution.
I love the dry floor pads - so great at getting dust bunnies, etc before you really sweep. I really don't like any of the wet swiffer products. They just don't do more than a light surface clean. I've tried them all and they don't work well at all. They are ok on laminate but if you actually really mop your floors, you'll have a ton of dirty water from all the yuck the swiffer does not get.
Ditto the residue and we have hard wood - I feel like it leaves a film behind. The floors are not super shiny like they are when we mop. We have a 100 lb lab that shakes slobber all the time, and I have to REALLY scrub w/ the swiffer wet jet to get that stuff off. With a mop, I think it would be easier.
I'm seriously thinking about getting an old-fashioned sponge mop like they have in the commercials...."don't you want me baby"...singing the song now...
I haven't had the issues with the residue (I use the dry pad with spray). However, I feel like sometimes it just pushes around stuff that sweeping didn't pick up. We have dogs, so I feel like after Swiffering, I have a line of damp dog hair that just got pushed around.
It's only really useful if you are in a pinch and just want to spot clean an area (like the kitchen). I also don't like the residue and I think the solution scent is too strong. I also don't like that the spray gets on my baseboards and then I have to go wipe it away (not sure that it will actually *do* anything to the paint, but oh well). It's not very economical either. And the batteries seem to die at the worst times.?
I find it much better to use a Wonder mop ($10 at Target) and a bucket of water with mopping solution. My floors get super clean. I like Fabuloso in the lavender scent.
I love the dry pads, I hate sweeping and they are great for dust bunnies and dog hair. The wetjet I tred and HATED! It definitely left a sticky residue. The wet pads (used on the regular swiffer not the swiffer wetjet) are ok. They are really good for quick cleanups and spot cleaning, but do leave streaks/residue (although not sticky) on our laminate floors. I also have a Hoover Floormate (machine for hard floors) I use it for big jobs and about every 2 weeks to do all the floors. It definitely gets more dirt and grime up but it also leaves streaks/residue. I have not found anything that does not leave streaks in our lamiate floors though.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies!! I think it sounds like I should just stick with a regular mop (argh) for now ... or maybe I'll try the Method stuff.
Re: NBR: silly clicky poll about Swiffer mop
Our entire house is tile and pergo floors. I don't know what I'd do without my Swiffer mop.
