Went to my appt yesterday at 10 wks. There was no heartbeat and the baby stopped growing 3 weeks ago. I have a d&c scheduled for tomorrow so they can remove the fetus and test it. Could use your help with advice on what to ask - they just said they could test it for genetic defects. What should I be asking for to help us learn anything useful? This is my first miscarriage. I'm 36. TIA.

Re: Just joining..
i'm sorry for your loss. my dr didn't think it was necessary to do any tests since this was my first miscarriage. if you think knowing will give you closure, then you have to do what you have to do... but considering how common miscarrying is, it's probably just one of those unfortunate things that happens in about 1 out of 4 pregnancies.
best of luck to you.
I know if I had gotten the test the first question out of my mouth would have been " What tests are you doing and What would this potentially tell me?"
That question is my standard WTF are you doing to me doc question.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Try to hang in there.
My OB said that they would test the tissue from my D&C, but she made it sound like they would likely not find anything. I have no idea when I get the results back or if this is even covered by insurance. I was just sort of shocked at the time and agreed to whatever they said.
so sorry for your loss. I am 36 & have had 2 losses this year! I feel for you!
It is good they are testing. It seems as if most times they aren't able to find much from the testing but it's def. worth it just in case. They were able to tell me what condition caused the m/c (Trisomy 15) but not what caused that to occur - which I've come to understand is almost unexplainable. You most likely won't get any answers but it's work it just in case.
sorry for your loss.. (((HUGS)))
It's never too early for testing...my last d/c was done at 2-3 weeks, all there was in my uterus were scattered pieces of placenta all over the place (hence why my doctor thought I was having a Molar pregnancy), they did testing and showed chom. defects (didn't say which one though). This is the most common form of m/c.
As for age, if you want testing done, you're well within your right to ask for it. It's your money so they can't say no. The results usually come back within a week or two. When I went for my one week post d/c they were already in.
I'm so sorry for your loss and wish you the best. Quick healing vibes your way.
