Is it traditionally spelled with one L or 2? I have always spelled it with 2, but have recently seen it spelled with one. We really love the name Eli, but want a longer, formal first name & Elijah is not our style. Eliot spelled with one L lends itself much more to Eli being the nickname vs. the two L spelling. The only problem is that I am not someone who likes "different" spellings for names. WDYT?
Re: Spelling of Elliot?
I've seen it spelled both ways, so I'm sure you can go either way with it.
Incidentally, I always think of George Eliot when I hear the name Eliot (b/c I'm an English NERD) who was actually a female writer using a male name for publishing reasons. So, I can actually see using Eliot for a girl's name, but it's nms at all. To me - it's a boy's name either way you spell it.
this.
I would use 2 L's, because with one L, ?I think T.S. Eliot, like a last name.
Honestly though, I don't think Eli makes sense as a nn for Elliot, because they have two different ?sounds going on- "Ell" vs "Eee".?
I think Eli is totally fine on its own though-if that's what you want to call him, I would just name him that.?
I've seen it spelled both ways, and I think using Eliot does lend itself better to the nn Eli.
This. I think you can still use Eli too. I like the name Elias too.
