Preggers and in wedding

so i'm the matron of honor in my best friends wedding nov. 28th (i'm due dec. 14th). I'm freaking out a bit about fitting in my dress. The store wants me to wait until july to order my dress so they can tell how much weight i've gained and where i'll be gaining it. I'm fine with all of that i'm just worried a week or two before the wedding it won't fit... anyone else has this issue? HELP!

Re: Preggers and in wedding

  • Ouch!  Yeah that totally stinks.  Do they have maternity dresses?  I was just in a wedding over the weekend and my dress had gotten a lot tighter because of my chest!!  Good luck!

  • I'm in a wedding in Sept, but I'll only be 20 weeks then.  I ordered my dress before I got pg, and I feel like they ordered at least a size bigger than I really need.  I was thinking I'd get the dress taken in, but now I'm thinking I may be so bloated by then that I won't need then dang thing taken in at all.

I'm sure the dress shop has worked with pg women before.  The best advice I can offer is to express your concerns and trust their professional opinions...provided they seem competent to you.  Good luck!

  • My wedding is next month-

I got my dress to fit me- no alterations.

I can't even suck in my gut to fit into that darn thing- I too am getting it altered, best thing is to keep the dress store in the loop- they can always do rush alterations, (like putting a corset back into the dress) but it'll cost you a little more to rush the process.

  • FU**!!!!! I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in October. I am due in January. I ALREADY HAVE MY DRESS! It is a size 8. There is NO WAY I will still be a size 8 145lbs in Ocotber.......I think I am going to have to spend ANOTHER $100 for a bigger dress.

  • I am in a wedding Nov 7 and I am due Dec 19th, I begged the bride to let me order a maternity bridesmaids dress and she did.
  • yes! ?I will be in a wedding Oct 17 and Im due dec 1. ? I am planning on asking David's Bridal what the best thing is to do, and get a dress with lots of extra room and getting it fitted as close to time as possible. ?Good Luck!

  • I'm in the same boat as you, so I'd like to see what other people say. I'll be 26 weeks in my friend's wedding (haven't told her that yet!) Is it a maternity dress you are ordering? Sometimes the manufacturers will rush maternity bm dresses so you can order them 8-12 weeks prior to the event rather than the standard 4-6 months. Can you check with the designer and see what their turn around time is?

  • The way I see it is they can always make it smaller but not bigger.  I would go BIG in July and then they can take it in in November if need be.  GL!

  • I am a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding at the end of August.  I told her we were trying when she asked me to be a part of her wedding party and she was totally cool with it.  When we went to try on dresses and pick them out, I was 6 weeks pregnant.  I ended up ordering a dress two sizes bigger than what I needed at the time.  Since we aren't sure how big I will be or what size my chest will be.  I will be 5 1/2 months pregnant.  It is always easier to take in a dress than it is take let a dress out.  There usually isn't enough fabric to let a dress out, and if they need to make it bigger then add side panels of fabric.  We also chose a dress that is very flowy and forgiving, therefore making me feel much more comfortable about wearing the dress and being in the wedding.

  • I'm in my BIL's wedding in a just a few weeks.  (I'll be 30 weeks at the wedding)

I was able to wait to order my BM dress until I was about 20 weeks along.  I ordered an empire waisted dress and got a size big enough to give my tummy plenty of room.

I have my alteration fitting this weekend (I'll be having the hem adjusted and dress taken in to fit my boobs).

  • I think waiting until July is a good suggestion and maybe order even one size larger if you are really worried.  What is the style of the dress?  I was in a wedding when I was 7 months pregnant, and the dress had an empire waist.  That style was really forgiving with my growing bump! (I ordered a size larger than normal and had enough room.)
  • My situation ended up like this...I'm the matron of honor in a wedding on January 2nd and I'm due January 9th. She has known the whole time that I was trying to get pregnant so she chose a dress for the whole party that is empire style. So I know it'll fit over my belly; I'm just worried about my boobs!

  • I am in the same boat. I am MOH and I'll be 6 months at the time of the wedding. Wedding is in October so I'm not sure when to order my dress.

You might need to be more concerned with giving birth at her wedding.  I had my first child 2 weeks before my due date.

  • Well you cant have it as bad as I do. I am in my brother-in-laws wedding in Aug. (will be 6 months pg) I bought my $200.00 dress months before I found out I was pg. So I have no idea what I will wear in his wedding. Its too late to take the too expensive dress back too! Makes me soooooo mad! $200.00 just for the dress, thats not counting the shoes, hair, makeup, nails etc. I will have to pay for!

Just get your dress a size big and do not get a form fitting dress like I had to get.

  • I'm a bridesmaid in September and will be about 6 months and change at that point. I went to David's Bridal last night to order the dress and they had a little pillow to strap around my midsection to mimic a bump.  Given the fake bump, the sales person suggested I buy a dress two sizes up from my current size and then just come in to get it altered a few weeks before the wedding.  I may just take the dress w/o alterations and go to my own seamstress the week before to get as close to accurate/comfortable as possible.

Same bride is doing an Indian wedding in October (when I'll be 7 months) and for that I'm wearing a sari, just letting my belly hang out gloriously.

In am schedualed to be in a wedding at 37 weeks. My plan was to buy the dress in July. We'll probably order it 4 times larger than what I am at the time AND order 2 yards of fabric (just in case). If the dress needs to be taken in that is fine, better too big than too small. If it is too small then I can use the extra fabric to add panels or convert the back into a corset style.

If you're on the taller side and/or plan to where big heals consider getting extra length because you belly is going to take up a lot of room.

I think that might be too big, I believe the standard is they can be let out 2 sizes and reduced 3 (don't quote me on that). Might be something to look into.

  • Last year, I was the bride and I had two bridesmaid's who were very pregnant in my wedding (one gave birth the next day and one gave birth a week later).  they went two differnt routes.  1.  bought a dress that was slightly bigger than what size she was and bought an extra panel and had them alter the front for the bump  2.  bought a dress about 10 sizes bigger and basically had it remade.  the dress with the panels was definitely the way to go.
  • I will be 31 weeks as a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding. Our dresses just have to be black and tea length, so I shouldn't have too much trouble finding one. She's been hounding the other girls to buy their dresses lately but hasn't said a word to me.
  • I'm in a wedding August 1st, but I'll only be around 5 months, so I'm not sure how much I'll be showing. I had to order the dress in February, but because we knew we were going to start trying, I ended up ordering the dress two sizes too big. I figured if I didn't end up pregnant I could always take the dress in, but I am so glad I ordered it bigger!
  • Another thing to consider: extra length!!!

I'm in my brother's wedding in September, when I'll be about 28 weeks. I'm using the same dress as planned, which is a short empire waist dress. I ordered two sizes up AND four extra inches of length to accommodate the belly. I didn't want it to end up being too short!
