My potty training funny (warning it is a poop story) ....

So we are potty training and honestly he is doing really good, maybe one accident a day and usually its early in the day. For the most part, we are using pull ups. On Monday, he was doing so well I decided to put on big boy training pants in the early evening because he had not had any accidents all day and he had already pooped for the day.
He tells me he has to go potty so we go running into the bathroom. Now mind you, he sits on the potty he does not stand yet.  I'm hurrying to pull his pants down and get him up there. Well in my rush, I failed to realize he had pooped in his pants. So I pull his pants down, go to sit him on the seat all the while smearing poop all over his legs, the toilet, the floor you name it! It was disgusting but funny at the same time.  I kept saying Oh Grady! and he'd say Oh Mommy!
Needless to say we went straight to the bathtub after that incident.

Lesson learned - 1)Always look before you pull the pants down!!!!

Re: My potty training funny (warning it is a poop story) ....

  • Poor guy!  Too funny.

So share your wisdom - how are you doing it?

  • Loading the player...
  • We go to the potty  ALL THE TIME!  Almost every hour or two we go to the potty. After meals or snack, we "try" about 20-25 mins after we finish.
Remember I have Ms. Mae who has done this a lot more than me. But we did it on our own for 3 days this weekend with only a handful of accidents. He is even pooping on the potty, which up until 2 weeks ago he had never done!
I knew he was ready b/c he would tell us right after he went and his diaper is dry in the mornings. She keeps reminding me this will take weeks to months to do but we just have to be consistent.

  • Ooh boy.  Okay - Ben has started waking up dry in the morning and after naps.  So maybe we'll start trying a little harder.  He's been going at bathtime on the potty for months now - so I guess it's time....  Ugh.

You know, I NEVER let him wear a diaper or go to the potty.  Not EVER!  *sigh*

  • I'd start by putting him on the potty first thing in the morning if he wakes up dry and I'd do the same after nap time (assuming he is dry).  I'd do that for a week or so then add in the other times throughout the day.  I told my dh I felt like I needed an alarm to go off every 1.5 hours to remind me it was potty time. Eventually (so Ms. Mae says) they start putting two and two together and will start to tell us they need to go before they go. We are not at that point yet but I don't think we are too far away. We have been "training" for about 2 weeks or so now.
