Vacation Thoughts

We're trying to figure out what we're doing for vacation this summer since we really dragged our feet after we got our BFP since we were so preoccupied. We're basically deciding between a 7 or 9 night cruise from Baltimore to the Eastern Caribbean or renting a beach house in the Outer Banks or southern N.C. for a week.

Of course there are a lot of things to consider, but has anyone taken a cruise when pregnant? My doctor cleared it (before 25 weeks) and saw no reason for concern. One friend went and said she was fine. We did a cruise last year and I didn't experience any motion sickness. I guess I just don't know what I'll be feeling like at 20-23 weeks or so. Anyone have any reasons you wouldn't feel comfortable going? Of course I would take all medical documents and drink bottled water. The cruises go to places like the Turks, Bahamas, etc.- pretty safe.

?Part of us want to see these islands before the baby comes, but I just don't know. Any advice or your own experiences would be great. thanks!?

Re: Vacation Thoughts

  • At 20-23 weeks a cruise would be fun.  If you were further along I would say that you would probably be most comfortable ina beach house at the outer banks.  Regardless have fun and enjoy it!!!  Once LO comes along vacationing takes on a whole new venture!!!!

  • Obviously everyone is different, but I felt my best around that time, so I would say go for the cruise.  You will be starting to show so you'll have lots of strangers asking you if you're pregnant-- I loved that :)
  • I don't really have much experience with vacationing while pg although we did go to VA for a long weekend (for a wedding) when I was pg with DD. I think I was around 23-24 wks. I didn't have any problems or regrets.

I think both of your options sound GREAT!!! I'm sure you'll have fun no matter which one you choose Big Smile However, if you really want to see the islands - I would do the cruise pre-baby. Having a baby/toddler and having to choose a destination for a "family vacation" to take DD along, I would choose the beach house in NC over the cruise.

  • Either way, just be careful of sun exposure to minimize risks of overheating and chloasma.

    Both sound like great options!

  • I'm right at that point now and I think I could do a cruise no problem.  I agree with previous poster that the cruise would be better to do pre-baby and the NC trip better post-baby.  Have fun!
  • as long as you're not sick, I think the cruise sounds AWESOME! Both sound great, but I agree with you that it would be fun to see all of those great islands before the baby gets here. You'll very likely be feeling great around that time and not super uncomfortable or anything yet, so I definitely vote for the cruise!
