Rings

Do you plan to continue to wear your e-ring/wedding ring even after it gets too tight on your finger during your pregnancy? DH and I were discussing this yesterday, and he told me that he would rather I take it off than be in pain (it happened once or twice before when I had too much salty food and my ring became painfully tight). I was really surprised that he said this!

Re: Rings

  • Why wear it if it's uncomfortable? I'll most likely wear my wedding ring on a necklace when it doesn't fit.
  • Loading the player...
  • If they hurt me, I will take them off.  With DD I wore my wedding band up until I left for the hospital, but I had to take my engagement ring off at some point when it got too tight.

My friend got an inexpensive, plain band in a larger size to wear during most of her pregnancy.  She said she felt naked without a ring on Smile

  • I'm not going to torture myself or risk having to have the rings cut off because it is way too tight and cutting off circulation to my finger... I would rather wear it on a necklace.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I wore them on a chain through most of 2nd tri and all of 3rd.  It makes no sense to me to wear them in pain, although I really missed them.  And sometimes you feel as though ppl are judging you.  My DH didn't care, it's not like you're going to get hit on with that belly showing ;)

Right now I am wearing the plain band that I got married in (DH and I had separate plain bands for the ceremony) because it is bigger. DH was very against the necklace idea for some reason (I did suggest it).

  • I'm sure mine will move to a necklace at some point. I'm not worried about it, I'd rather be comfortable.

  • I figure I will just get a cheap plain band when/if my rings don't fit at some point. Luckily both of my rings are a little big to start with so I'm hoping I can wear them for most of the pg.?
  • I will not wear them if it gets too uncomfortable which I am sure will happen.  I can't even wear my rings to bed because my fingers swell at night and I will wake up in pain.

  • I have a band now that's too big, I will wear that.  It's just a plain white gold band.  If that gets to be too tight, oh well!  I know I'm married.
  • If mine gets too tight I'll just take it off. I know a lot of people get a cheap band in a larger size and wear that when their wedding ring gets too tight. Mine's kind of big to begin with.... so I may be OK.

I'll just take mine off... this doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I don't need the reminder that I'm married and it's not like I'm going to be bar hopping.
  • I wouldnt dream of wearing rings that don't fit, and DH wouldn't want me to. Once mine get too tight, to the ring stand they go! I won't be wearing mine on a necklace b/c i've had too many necklaces break without me noticing and if I lose my rocks I'm not getting more for a while! I might get a cheap band only because my hand feels funny when I'm not wearing a ring.

Oooh that's a good idea. Maybe I'll get one of those giant fake things that's made to look like J. Lo's ring or something.

  • No way would I wear it if I was uncomfortable.

  • I have always been able to wear my rings throughout the whole pregnancy. My hands don't swell. if this time happens to be different - yeah ill take them off.
  • I've had to take mine off because it was cutting off circulation-mostly at night.

But you can bet that at the wedding, reguardless, that pretty lil thing will be on my fat finger-

  • I worked at a jewelry store throughout college and my suggestion is NOT to wear your ring!  I have seen so many people have to get their ring cut off because of swollen fingers.  When the ring gets cut off, it can obviously be fixed to look like new, but OUCH!

  • Yea I doubt at that point you will "just wear them anyways" its not that easy. lol Plus I want to be comfortable. Im still wearing mine but a few times it was a little tougher getting them off. so maybe soon it might be time. idk

just get a fake adujstable band or something

  • I will be taking my off once they get tight and wear them on a necklace.

  • Why wear it if it's uncomfortable? Also, what if you have to take it off for a procedure? You want them to have to cut it off? This is a really dumb question.

  • last pg i was able to wear my rings until i was in the hospital-a bonus for having a winter baby-less water retention :)

Why is this a dumb question? I never leave the house without my rings on, unless they are being cleaned or something similar. To me they are a symbol of the loving bond between me and my husband. Again, why is this a dumb question?

  • I'm so confused by this question.  Why on earth would I risk damage to the ring or my finger by continuing to wear it?

    How odd.

I intend to buy a cheap plain band of some kind if I have to go up in size, but mostly because I can't stand not having a ring on.  I've worn a ring on that finger since I was 15, so it feels really weird.

Because if they get too tight, they can cut off circulation? ffs, how is this NOT a dumb question?

I never take my rings off either, except to get them cleaned, but you can bet that if they get too tight for me to wear they will be coming off.

  • There is no way I would leave them on, they are already getting tight on me. I suspect I will be leaving them off for good pretty soon.?
  • In September I got mine stuck on there pretty good and it freaked me out (ended up getting them resized)!  The minute mine feel snug they're coming off...but I will probably buy a cheapie set to wear instead because I hate being without my rings...plus teaching h.s. kids is interesting.  They notice when I don't wear my rings and immediately think DH and I are splitting up.  LOL!
  • Don't wait till you can't get them off because you don't want to run the risk that they will cut them off day of delivery.  I will wear mine till I can't anymore.
  • I'm already noticing that my fingers swell when I'm out and about (it's hot outside).  They are starting to get harder to take off (but still fine to put on).  When the time comes, I will not be wearing them so that I am comfortable.  My back up plan is a fake set of rings that look extremely close to my real set.  I purchased them off of eBay several years back ($30) when I gained a ton of weight and my wedding rings were way too tight.  I couldn't bare to be without my wedding rings or have someone think I was available (not that anyone would look at me being as fat as I was or even being pregnant now).  LOL!  I know it's strange, but since I already have that other (fake) set on hand, that's my back up plan so that I won't go without.
  • I was planning to take them off when they become too tight - and possibly wear them as a necklace.  My DH is worried that the chain might come loose and we would lose the rings.  He's got a point.  I've lost another pendant that way.  We will most likely keep them safe at home and I will wear a larger band in it's place.
  • I'm taking mine off at the first sign of tightness.

I'm planning on getting an inexpensive ring set in a larger size...I feel naked without my rings and I'd constantly be driving myself nuts wondering where my rings were.
