Did you deliver at a Birthing Center, at Home, or at a hospital? How was your experience? What would you recommend? I'm looking at the Birth and Womens center next to baylor dallas.
I went to the Birth & Womens Center on Swiss, Cherie is awesome. I adore her and kiss the ground she walks on. Funny though i was scared of her during my pregnancy (careful she is a food/weight natzi!!), but she knows her sh!t. If it weren't for Cherie we would have lost my son. Cherie had to rush me to Baylor for an emergency c/s, she was calm and did not leave DH's side for a second. She also stayed with us after the delivery and came back to visit several times during our stay. We went back to her for our son's circumcision (sp?) and the post natal check up for him. I can not say enough good about her. We also took the Bradley Classes that they recommended, it was all the way in Richardson (long drive for us in NRH), but so worth it, even though we ended up with a c/s.
I delivered at Baylor Frisco and had a wonderful experience. I wanted a natural birth and when I went in all the nurses and staff knew my birth plan and followed it whenever they could. The nurses were all really great too.

lol, that's why we went to Cherie, she delivered my friend and my friend's kids! You can see Ike's foot prints on the wall in the back hallway )
I was in some pretty hardcore labor for a day and a half, but it wasn't regular. Apparently my water had broken sometime Friday (i say that because there was a noticeable difference in the pain of the contractions), but i didn't know. TMI, but i honestly had just thought that i had to pee a lot and wasn't wiping so well, lol. We finally called Cherie Saturday to explain my contractions (i hadn't slept the night before and i didn't know what to do, i was exhausted) and she asked us to come in to get checked out. She either wanted to speed up the labor process or stop it so i could get some rest, it just depended on how far along i was.
When we got there, she did an exam and discovered my water had been broken, but since there wasn't some big gush i couldn't pinpoint when it had happened. Then we got the monitor on my belly to check out Ike and his hb went to 198, then crashed to 27. Then it did it again. Cherie very calmly told DH to get the car and follow her to Baylor (i was to ride with Cherie). On the way to Baylor Cherie explained that i would be getting a stat section, she was so calm that i was totally clueless as to how serious everything was. I was more worried about the fact that i was about to walk into the hospital with NO PANTS and people would see my a$$, lol.
At the hospital they quickly stuck the monitor on my belly and once again his hb went crazy high (in the 200s) and crashed again. They didn't even wait for DH to park the car, the started wheeling me out with the mask to put me under, thank God DH was running in just as the were wheeling me into the operating room. There was no time for pain meds or the doctor, i was put under and a resident performed the c/s in less than 3 minutes. Ike was screaming his fool head off before he was even out of my stomach. They couldn't tell me why everything went so crazy, but (and this is totally my opinion) i think that i might have gotten an infection because my water was broken for longer than we thought (well over 24 hours) and that's why ike was in distress. Sorry, that's my long explanation )
Both of my sons were born in hospitals. My oldest was born at Plano Medical Center. I had the worst experience. I ended up with a c-section which I was told was an emergency. Later when I was pregnant with my second son and switched Doctor was told there was no reason in my files for the c-section. Anyway...I had my second son at Richardson Regional and that is where I am planning on delivering our newest addition. I loved how small and quiet the hospital was. All of the rooms are private. At Plano, I did have a private room but it was incredibly noisy and it was hard to sleep and the nurses were incredibly rude to me. At Richardson I got one-on-one care from the nurses. It was great!!
We had Lucie at Family Centered Maternity Care in Garland. I had (mostly) a waterbirth, and had a great experience. The midwife was Kathleen Mayorga, and she's awesome! I think she has another center called Bella Birth somewhere else in the Metroplex. GL!
Had a terrible experience at Mansfield Methodist while pg--which was brand spankin new and could have been the reason for most of the problems with poor staffing. That and I thought they were going to kill me. I switched to Medical Center at Arlington and it was wonderful. Planned c/s because of some complications while pg. I would go back to MCA again. However, they could update their rooms but overall, wonderful experience.
Both of my boys were born at Medical City Dallas. It is such a wonderful hospital, I would recommend it to anyone. I had 2 fantastic experiences at that hospital.
here's another enthusiastic endorsement for the birth/women's center!
cherie was at our birth 3 weeks ago, and carol is fabulous too!
we also took our bradley classes in richardson, and felt beautifully prepared by bot the BWC staff and our bradley stuff. our birth didn't go exactly as planned, so we really appreciated all the prep they'd given us.

our little sprout is almost 4 weeks old
I had 2 PERFECT deliveries at Plano Medical Ctr.
My first was a 16 hour induction
My second (3 months ago) was a 2 hour start to finish delivery
I loved the staff and my favorite part was them numbing my hand before they put the IV in.
I was more scared of the IV than birth the 1st time around.
I also love that they use CNA's rather than anesthesiologists. I had the same CNA both times. He was soooo great!
