I have very long hair (down my mid back) and I have always loved it. But lately when I think how much work it is to keep looking nice( it's very curly so I have to straighten it to look flowy and shiny), I'm tempted to cut it. I fear that if I cut it now, I'll regret it in a few months...
Any thoughts on cutting hair to make it more managable? How much time will I have once the baby is here to do my hair?
Re: Cutting hair during pregnancy?
I strongly recommend against making any huge hair changes during pregnancy/within the first few weeks of having a baby.
If you like your long hair normally, there's no reason that you'd need to cut it off just bc you're having a baby.
Trust me on this, Mom hair isn't any easier to maintain. I tried to change up my hair when I was PG with my DD. It was NOT a good thing. And it was NOT cute. nor was it any easier like I thought it would be
A ponytail is very, very easy to do however
I'd say to start off slow, an inch or two, to give you a better idea of how much you'll like it. This way, if you hate it, it won't take long to grow back.
How long does it take you to do it now?
as a hair stylist I would recommend cutting it a couple inches at a time, you still have 10 weeks so maybe cut 2-3 inches now and then 2-3(or more depending on how you feel) in 4 weeks and maybe again 4 weeks after that... you'll have time to get used to the shorter hair and see if it actually makes it more managable or not (sometimes shorter hair can be more of a pain depending on the style)
also to keep your curly hair more managable have them cut some nice layers into it, i'm guessing that it's going to be easier to manage if you have a style that you can wear it curly and it looks nice.
I recently cut my hair but did it in a diagonal forward to make it easy in the back but so i still feel like I have some hair in the front.
good luck!
I wish I could just do a little at a time, but I love dramatic changes lol...plus I would want to donate the 10 inches to Locks of Love....I just don't want to cut off something that I've had for so long on an impulse....
Now it take around 40 minutes from wet to straight...
?
as a stylist also this is what i?recommend?also why not embrace your curls i am a curly girl and it only takes me 5 mins to do my hair how easy is that. scrunch and go use a light hold mouse and a friz serum and a little hair spray once it has dried a little has been my curly girl cocktail for a while. I love Big and Sexy hair products you might want to try that. hope this helps a little ?
I don't really know how you feel about it, but personally, I've always just figured that it's just hair and it'll grow back. I wouldn't go crazy short, maybe cut the 10 inches off and then play with that for a while. if it's mid back, 10 inches should still leave you with a relatively decent length.
But I agree with PP, be careful about short styles with curly hair. I cannot, CANNOT cut my hair shorter than shoulders when wet, because dry, it shrinks up to nothing and I look like Little Orphan Annie, unless I dry it straight EVERY DAY. And we all know that sometimes we're just not in the mood to do it.
God did I write this post? I love drastic changes, I JUST cut off 9 inches off my hair last week. My one criteria was that I was still able to put it up in a pony tail & I am very happy I did this, my hair is SO healthy, I am still getting used to it but before I cut it I figured if I hated it this would be a crucial time to find out since prenatals will help it grow out faster anyhow. I say DO IT!
and if you like big changes then just do it! make sure you go to a good salon and ask for a stylist that works well with curly hair and I'm sure it will turn out great! If you are afraid to do it on impulse then make the appointment for a couple days from now and look for some pictures of styles you like in between now and then. And also donating to locks of love rocks!
I would not recommend cutting your hair/making a drastic change while pregnant. When I was pregnant with my DD, I cut 11.5 inches off my hair and donated it to Locks of Love. Although it was for a good cause, I completely regretted it after. Too much of a shock to the system with "raging" hormones, I guess. Also, I just wished I would have been able to easily put it up in a pony tail or something right after the baby was born.
My hair is on the long side again and as much as it is irritating me right now and feel like I want to cut it off, I will refrain from doing so for awhile.
DITTO!!!! I know that I shouldn't cut my hair pregnant or not...but if you do...go easy!
