Micronor? I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen for 10 years until we TTC, but obv. since I'm BF'ing, I can't take this. My OB recommended Micronor, a type of mini-pill or progest-only pill. I'm nervous to take something different, b/c (A) I'm not sure it'll really work, and (B) wondering if it'll screw me up or something - lol!
I'm not good w/ change, and obv. Ortho worked so well, and I got pregnant right away after going off of it. I'd hate to take something new and then want to get PG again and have problems from a new pill or something. Anyways, just wondering if any of you are on this or heard anything about it.
Or, what do YOU take for b/c if you are BFing? Obv. there are condoms, which I have no problem using, but it'd be nice to take something so we wouldn't always have to use condoms. TIA!
Re: B/C - Anyone know anything about...
I'm on micronor (actually they filled it as camilla the generic) and have been since 6 weeks pp. I have yet to get any periods or anything thus far..when I stop EPing I will be getting back on a regular birth control pill...my dr. said the combination of nursing/pumping with this pill should prevent pregnancy...though we still use condoms sometimes...I haven't had any problems on this pill thus far.
After pregnant with Brooks I took Camila (mini-pill). Didn't have any problems and got pregnant with Caroline right away.
After Caroline I started with Mirena (if you remember I had tons of issues with it) so I'm back on Camila again.

I don't know about IUDs while nursing. Since Paraguard is non-hormonal, it may be ok. I know my OB wouldn't do Mirena while nursing, but that doesn't mean others won't. I didn't really ask why though, just took his word.
I have an IUD and I'm still nursing. I have Paragard. But I was told I could get a Mirena and it would be fine while I was nursing. I know there are lots of people who BF with IUDs. I chose Paragard b/c I didn't want hormones, but it was completely unrelated to BFing.

That's good to know, I really had no idea. My OB is very conservative with IUDs. He won't give one to anyone who hasn't had a baby either, and I know alot of OBs will. At the time I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I didn't ask alot of questions or do any research. I'm considering Mirena now, but am not nursing anymore, so it's a moot point for me. Maybe next time though
I'm glad this issue came up, I was going to ask for opinions also.
I had my 6 week check-up yesterday, and given that I am exclusively BF'ing and we will (probably) TTC in the next 1-2 yrs, my doctor recommended Micronor instead of getting an IUD (which i didn't really want anyway).
I started taking it last night-----my OB was very reassuring that if I take it correctly and continue to BF, I should have no problems. I sincerely hope she is right---I do NOT want an accident on our hands any time soon!!! Even though we don't really want to, we may use condoms as a back-up too. Sigh....... I didn't miss worrying about these issues for the past year!
Thanks everyone - I really appreciate the input!! I think I'm going to take the Micronor (it's better than just using condoms alone, although I know it's not as strong as my trusty ol' Ortho!)
