I am a size 18/20 and only 4w2d. I have no idea when I'll have to wear mat clothes...I do have some size 20 and 22 things that I can "grow into" should I need something bigger. Honestly? I am hoping that I don't gain too much and my shape just changes. My doctor said not to gain more than 20 lbs total with this pregnancy (which is typical for obese women) and said that I might even lose weight (especially during the first tri). We shall see...
Follow-up question...plus size ladies...where are cute mat clothes? And how about tall/long pants for plus sizes? I need at least a 34" inseam.
Yeah, I'm the same way. My problem is that I'm like constantly bloated now, only at 6 weeks. So it just makes my waistline tighter, but I don't want to buy bigger pants because the thighs and butt area will be too big. So I didn't know if it was weird to go buy maternity pants now. I'm hoping minimal weight gain too, about 15-20 pounds. With my shape, I'll just look like I gained weight.
Ann Taylor Loft is about to relaunch their maternity line...their regular sizes go up to either an 18 or 20 online. I'm normally a 16 and will probably get a lot of stuff there.
With my 1st preg I got some things from Lane Bryant, they had a maternity section online. And I got my other stuff from Motherhood, one of the stores not too far from me had a small selection of plus size stuff. It was really hard to find things. I think I got 2 Capri's, 2 pants, 5 shirts and a pair of PJ's. I was able to wear some of my regular clothes still too.
I started wearing maternity clothes at about 7 weeks. This is because with my muffin top as I sit, it hurt my stomach. I purchased some maternity pants so that would not happen. I still wear regular tops and dresses though.
I'm glad for the mat clothes suggestions. However I'm ticked! You guys get some good weight gain. I'm just a size 16 and was told no more than 10lbs. How do you have a pregnancy and not gain more than 10 lbs. UGH! Here's to lettuce and fruit for the next 7 months!
I was an 18 pre-pregnancy and I needed maternity pants around 10 weeks -- my waist line (as it was) changed really quickly. My chest also grew really quickly and that limited some shirts but I can actually still wear some pre-preg tops (a-line, empire waist type) now at 32 weeks. I did lose 8# in the first tri and as of today I'm up 12# total so it is possible to keep weight gain low (and really to be honest it's just happening, I'm not really doing much to make it so).
I would say though that I did pop around 18 weeks, I definitely looked pregnant in the few photos I took around that time frame so the maternity pants have been really great and I couldn't imagine wearing regular pants at any point once I switched over to maternity. I do have some 1X shorts (cotton knit from Walmart) that I wear around the house under my belly and some knit gauchos from Target in XXL that work fine -- they've just stretched out so much that I doubt I'll wear them post partum. I can wear both L and XL pants at Motherhood as well as their Plus (1X) tops; at Kohls, which carries a Motherhood line the XL is a little snug (and they don't have plus). Old Navy XL is also a good fit and now towards the end of pregnancy the XXL tops are still covering my belly which is nice (but they are big everywhere else).
p.s. even though it's summer I found for me that the full belly panel is both more comfortable and more "shaping" so that my bump looks more like a bump and less like extra rolls of fluff. GL!

I lost 22 lbs in Feb/Mar which is why I think I have a little more "wiggle room." She gave me 2 lbs as the MAX and would be fine if I didn't gain at all. Although I am plus size, I am hour glass shaped (hips and boobs bigger than my waist) and I anticipate changing shape more than actually gaining weight.
I am mostly worried about my boobs...they are already a 40DDD! I am sleeping with shelf-bra tanks because they hurt so badly. I pray that they don't get bigger, just fuller.
FWIW, Liz Lange for Target doesn't fit me. Not even the XXL. The proportions are just wrong...mostly in the chest and arms. I found some great deals on eBay for Motherhood items and got some 2X tops and pants and they're on the way bigger side right now, but come 25+ weeks I am sure they'll be fitting. Luckily lots of my "regular" clothes will work for most of my pregnancy...I have several empire and wrap style tops and dresses. I want to find a few pairs of slacks (black, brown, gray) and jeans...but I am 5'9" and so far, everything I've seen is 31" inseam or less.
I got a pair of maternity jeans this weekend (wearing them now, very comfy) from Motherhood Maternity. I got pretty lucky, I walked in, verfied size exchange (normally a 16 is a 1X in their sizes) picked out a pair of boot cut pants, she grabbed another stretchier version and thats what I bought. Im 5'7 1/2" and these are long on me to the point of draggin on the ground, you should be able to find something there for you!
I'm about a 24, and generally need 3x. I've been wearing stretchy pants and have worn some of my mat pants from the previous pregnancy a few times, because I feel bloated or uncomfortable in my tighter pants. I should have my belly band in the next day or two, which should allow me to be more comfortable in my slacks again. I already had a mix of maternity shirts in my closet, lol - I do a decent amount of ebay and thrift stores and you'd be surprised how many mat clothes get mixed in and I tend to wear lots of empire waists and flowy things. My boobs are already too big for most of my fitted shirts, so I just wear whatever seems comfortable.

Oh, and I mostly buy from JC Penny - the Duo Maternity line. And I also like some of Motherhood, but their sleeves are weird on me unless it's stretchy fabric. The jeans are good though. I think Duo is good for work clothes.
I definitely buy a lot from Ebay, it makes it simpler, imo.

The last time I bought maternity clothes was 3 years ago, so my info's a little out of date. The Motherhood stuff never fit me right--it was too tight across the shoulders, breasts, etc. The panties were the worst--saggy butt, pulling across the bump. JCPenney had SHOCKINGLY great quality and fit. I bought some Old Navy plus-sized maternity stuff online, and other than the panties, it was all crummy quality. This time around, I'm really eager to try Lane Bryant's new line!
Oh, and my Motherhood Maternity nursing bra was awful. Medela all the way, baby! I also liked Glamour Mom nursing tanks, but only one style came in plus sizes, and the biggest size barely fit me. (Size 18ish.)
I am 12 weeks now and because of bloating, I started needing a Bella Band around 6-7 weeks. I just bought maternity stuff last week. It feels really good, but yea, it was tough finding the right sizes. I found some tops at Old Navy Maternity, tops/yoga pants/skirt at Target Maternity in their XXL size, and Motherhood items go up to XL, but I had to use the styles that had a full band. As an FYI, I'm normally 16-18 at Lane Bryant.
I started wearing maturnity clothes at 9 weeks I bloated. I was 16/18 before pregnancy and told to gain about 15 pounds. Cuttently I'm down 5 pounds and have not been trying to loose weight I just had bad M/S and my tummy hurts if I eat much at once.
I found pants at motherhood were really long but they had big sizes. I liked the shirts from Target and found a few at thrift stores. I also bought some pieces at cj banks.

Torrid does not have a specific maternity line, but they do have a ton of loose fitting clothes that will work well for most of my pg. I have several dresses and anticipate picking up a couple of these soon-

I can't believe Lane Bryant discontinued their maternity line! I was so excited about it! CRUD! :-(
Maybe I won't need to buy as much maternity wear this time around.
