3rd Trimester

clingy babies and temperment

So DS was very clingy, fussy and hard to put down when he was a baby but is now a total social butterfly.  Our first day at preschool he walked in and dove right in, never looking back.

So now I wonder what I'm going to get with baby #2...is she going to be a super easy baby and then turn into a clingy anti-social toddler? Indifferent

I'm mostly joking...but kinda not.

I totally understand how you are mostly joking, but not!   I keep thinking the same kind of things - Olivia was a very easy baby, and she's a bit of a tyrant (I guess "leader" would be a better word) as a toddler.   I'm wondering if my new baby will be fussy/colicky, but an easy toddler:)

  • Gabe is even more independent because I wasn't able to hold him constantly like I was able to with Roo. I hated having to put him down, but he slept better when we weren't holding him anyway.
  • lol. And I love that shirt in the bottom left of your collage.
  • I wonder that too. DH and I were very similar in temperment as children, and DD is a lot like that. I'm very curious what 2nd baby is going to be like
  • I am crossing my fingers that DS's awesome temperment is due to my phenomenal parenting skills...

I do wonder how your son would have turned out if you hadn't followed AP philosophies. IMHO, he's proof that AP can turn an fussy baby into a happy and well-adjusted child.  :)

  • DD was such an easy baby.  When DD was 3 months old my DH had an unexpected heart surgery with no babysitter available.  DD spent about 12 hours at the hospital in a carrier and never cried.  Sure she fussed, but it was really only for feedings if I lost track of time.  Since then we have always thought of her as an easy-going kid, gets along well with others, etc.  DH and I joke that we will have payback with this child and he will be quite the terror.

I've been thinking the same thing.  No other kids to compare to but DH was an easy going baby, social butterfly and is still the same.

I was an easy baby, but a shy clingy toddler/child.  I'm still shy to a point but I'm also the first to speak up about something and stand my ground.
