baby carriers and airport security

imagebrideofaussie:

yes on the aisle seat.  make sure to change the diaper right before you board.

Know that you will have to pass the Bjorn through the x-ray machine like a piece of luggage and walk through w/ JUST your baby in your arms.  I thought that part was a PITA.

Is this for any baby carrier? I have a moby wrap, and I was going to wear it and the baby at the airport. If I have to take it off though...

And why do I need to take it off? It's cotton. Does the bjorn have metal or something?

Re: baby carriers and airport security

  • Yes, any carrier. They will make you carry the baby in your arms when you walk through. They make you take off any jackets, sweaters, etc...

It is a PITA...but it is what it is.

  • You do not need to take the moby off. I have walked through security with DS in the moby at multiple airports, and have never been asked to take him out or the moby off.

Not true for me. I guess be prepared to take him out and just hope that you don't have to. They make me carry him in my arms in three airports - Boston, Raleigh and the small airport here where I live.

  • My airport--a really tiny one--said I had to carry him through. And I could not wear him on the plane.

    ?

  • I didn't have to take mine off.

  • I went through security with my DD when I had to meet my mom at the gate - I had her in the moby and I didn't have to take her out.

ETA: this was in San Jose, CA

  • My Mom works for TSA.  The rules say you are supposed to take them out of any type of carrier, but like anything the rules aren"t always followed.  We've flown 4 times and had to go through 5 check points.  I've had to take him out zero times.  Large airports too.  It depends.  I'd be prepared to take them out but don't unless told to.
