Tell me about yours. Is there a link that I can see them? How much were they? DH said that I get new ones when we buy a house and the house we love has no appliances (none of the ones we've seen do). I'm looking to keep it under $2k for the washer/dryer set. Thanks!
Re: washers and dryers
We got the Maytag Bravos from Home Depot, about 2 years ago, I think we were just under 2k. ?We ended up with several hundred in rebates too. ?One for spending X at home depot, one from Maytag and one from Vectren for buying an energy star washer. ?
We are very happy with them. ?Though not top loaders they hold just as much. ?We didn't end up with front loaders because a) we heard that you needed to leave the door open to avoid musty smell, our laundry room door would make that difficut, b) we are both tall and we decided that paying $400 for pedestals was ridiculous when adding to the cost of the front loader and c) we learned that if we ever planned on having a 2nd floor laundry that some top loaders can have bad energy transfer and shake the house.
?
How is hte house search coming? ?Do we get pics??
We have the Whirlpool Duet Sport set, purchased at Lowe's for approximately $1600 for the set. I think the prices are lower now from what I just saw on the Lowe's website.
We love them. When we were shopping, we were told at three different retailers (two "big box" and one local") that the only real difference between the Sport and the regular Duet is the capacity, but that the capacity in the Sport is plenty for most average-sized families.
FWIW, I find I can fit 2-3 weeks' worth of laundry in three loads - whites, mediums, and colors.
We just bought these about a month ago:

LG is a pretty trusted brand for W&Ds, and these particular models are new. They're *slightly* smaller capacity than some of the more expensive ones, but the price is GREAT as you can see (we paid around $1200 for the set). They're entry-level HE machines, which is what we wanted. We didn't get the pedestals because, well, that's just more expense. As far as leaving the washer door open to avoid a musty smell, that's the case with all front-loaders -- the seal is so good (since the water is up against the door obviously) that you have to air it out for a bit when you're done washing to let the condensation dry out completely. But it doesn't have to be open all the time -- I'll just leave it for a couple hours after I do a load.
WE LOVE THEM!!! My sister and her BF just moved in together, and bought the same machines for their place.
