Maybe TMI post about boobs

It's only TMI because I'm not nursing, but I think this is a common problem with nursing, so I'm asking.

The past few weeks my nipple (just one) has been really itchy.  So I've been putting lotion on it, thinking maybe it's just dry skin or something.  It looks fine, just a little flakey.  Then last night it was really bothering me, and this morning it was raw, and the skin had broken.  It wasn't bleeding, but was oozy (sorry if that's gross).  I put some Aquaphor on it and it's feeling better now. 

Any idea what this could be since I'm not nursing?  I think I might have some lanolin left over from when I was pumping, should I use that?  I've never had this happen before.  It doesn't seem like my bra is irritating it, but I guess it could be.  It's just the one though.

    I would try the lanolin... I think that the lotion could have made it worse. I don't know why it irritates more but I remember when I was pg with dd lotion made my nipples itch more but lanolin helped.

    Are you using a different detergent or softener?  Maybe something is irritating your skin.  I'd just keep using the Aquaphor I guess.  That's bizarre though!  I never experienced any cracking or anything in the beginning and I've never had any flakiness or itching.  It really sounds more like an allergic type thing to me.

    We're not using anything different for the laundry, so IDK.  It's weird.  And really weird that it's just on one.  I'll just keep using the Aquaphor or try the lanolin and hope it goes away!

    That is very strange. I also had a lot of luck with the Aquaphor rather than Lanolin, so keep trying that. Maybe you got irratation from the beach or your bathing suit?
