2nd Trimester

Stylist gave me a MULLET. Help!

When I was pg with DS#1 I had long hair (to the middle of my back) and it helped me feel pretty as I gained weight and my face got fatter...

After I had DS and lost the baby weight I got my hair cut into a super short inverted bob, which was so cute and I loved it. BUT then I got pg with #2 and made a vow to grow it out again to balance out that pregnant face look I hate so much on myself.

WELL...it had just grown to about my shoulders when I went to a new stylist for a TRIM. She went nuts hacking it up with all these layers and now it totally looks like a MULLET. It is the worst haircut I have EVER had (and I grew up in the 80s!).

As I see it, I have two options:
#1 - Try my best to stick with it and grow out this heinous haircut in hopes that I can get some length in the next few months

#2 - Go for instant gratification and get the short bob again, hoping that I won't look terrible as my face gets heavier.

Opinions???
PS - I know this sounds super vain. Blame it on the hormones, I guess, but my hair feels like the one thing on my body that I have some control of these days. Thanks for your replies!

I vote for the bob.... and DO NOT go back to that same stylist! That really sucks that she botched your cut. Maybe you could see someone else and they could "fix" it, without chopping it too much shorter? I dunno, without a pic it's hard to say. GL!

  • Go for the bob, I have it and I love it, you will eventually lose the weight again, and I am sure you are your own worst critic, and your face doesn't look as fat as you think!! Good luck!! and stay sexy!!
  • You need to feel good about yourself!  I would say that you should go to a different stylist and get them to try and give you something that will grow out nicely.  It will likely be shorter than you want but maybe they can do something to correct the horrid mistake!  If you can't do that I'd get the bob (cut as long as possible) and continue growing out from there.  I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you!

  • Oh I totally understand! I got a surprise mullet once. Hack off the lowest layer and hope for the best.

  • My sister recently made this same statement.  She TOTALLY overreacted and her hair looked CUTE!  She needed a couple of days to figure out the best way to style it.  Now, it's a haircut I envy!  Spend a couple of days (if you haven't already) and try different ways of styling it.  Then, if you still absolutely hate it, go for the bob.

    ?

ditto. it is probably not as bad as you think!?

  • Thanks girls! Your replies really helped. I suppose I should have mentioned that I've tried everything (blow drying it with every kind of brush, curling it, flat ironing it) and it still looks like I should be wearing it under a trucker hat. I think I'll be going for the bob. Wish me luck! :)

  • oh no! I'm so sorry :( That really sucks.. and I totally know what you mean about the hair and weight gain thing. But, I say go for the bob! I bet it will look awesome. Plus I've always heard that shorter hair actually looks better on rounder faces then long hair does. So think of that :) Not saying you're "rounder".. you know what I mean, we've both been there at the end of pregnancy ;)

  • The same thing just happened to me!!  I cried for a day straight about two weeks ago.  I had some long layers and hair past my shoulders when I got married last November.  Then I cut it all to my chin and loved it this winter, but wanted to grow it our for the summer/pregnancy.  I asked her to put some of the long layers back in....and walked out with the "Rachel" cut circa 1995.  Awful!  I debated cutting it all off and starting over or grinning and bearing it in the hopes of getting some length back soon.  Since I can pull it into a little ponytail, I opted for trying to grow it out.  Can you pull yours back?  If I couldn't, I'm pretty sure I would've cut it short again....Let me know what you decide!

  • You are not being vain at all! I have really curly hair and a few years back I went to a new stylist and got my hair cut short (chin length), well the way she did the layers made it short in front and long in back and presto, I had a mullet. So I feel your pain!

I think I'd have to go with the bob and just get it fixed. I told my stylist last week I wanted to get a trim and to "take some of the bulk out" (meaning more layers or some thinning) and he wound up cutting 3-4 inches. I came home freaking out, poor DH got the brunt of it. Stylists need to be careful of pg women's hormones!!!
