Do you buy gender specific big items?

The furniture post below got me thinking. ?All of our big purchases ie furniture, swing, car-seat, etc. were gender neutral so they can be used for a next child no matter what the sex. ?Additionally when I by onesies and pjs for DD I try to buy at least half in gender neutral so that if we have a boy later on we wouldn't have to get everything again. ?My only splurge was the pink bugaboo but that fabric color can be changed. ?I just feel like buying everything gender specific could end up costing significantly more...

Heck no! I don't understand the people that want new items for each child, they clearly have more money than I do, I want to get my money's worth out of this stuff. I do buy boy clothes for Elijah, but some of the basic stuff can be gender neutral.

All our big items are all gender neutral. They are all the raingforest ones. And our carseat isnt really but I have seen girls in them to. So it will work. But all the clothes are boy clothes. Which is fine with me cause if I ever have a DD I can spend all that money on cute girl clothes!

All our big stuff is neutral, but all the little stuff is all boy. But everything seems more blue then neutral....

we actually got a ton of pink-swing, carseats, bouncers, etc.. but i plan on selling most of it now while its still worth something, b/c we won't be able to have another for at least two more years Crying and i honestly didn't use much 'stuff' at all. we never bought a PNP and i sold my hot pink zippy after two months. the carseats i will recover myself/buy a GN if necessary, and the high chair is GN already, but i'm about to make a new cover for it cause mine sucks to clean and is already falling apart.

clotheswise we have ONLY girly stuff, pretty much. but i'm ok with that b/c i'm very crafty and will make diaper covers/pjs/etc for our next, and if i need boy clothes instead of girls i'll just do a swap of sorts with a consignment shop. baby clothes are so gently used (for the most part!) that i don't mind sharing/swapping with friends.

Most of our stuff is gender neutral, but most of our clothes are not. I have them all saved so if this baby is a boy, he will be set. If not, I'm going shopping.

Any large items we've bought are neutral, but we haven't bought any furniture for DS, mainly just a stroller and car seat.

It drives me absolutely crazy that I can't find nice gender neutral clothing for DS - it seems like all boys' clothing is either navy or has footballs on it. Sigh.

Almost all of our stuff is girly. I suppose that you could use our cribs and changing table for a boy, but I probably wouldn't... I just sell everything off between kids and get a pretty fair amount of money back and buy new stuff for the next kids. I also buy a lot of gear on CL so it's not full retail price to begin with.

I love buying new stuff for a new baby, it's half the fun!

I knew going into any big purchase, that if we had a girl for #2, I wouldn't be re-buying anything, so I definitely tried to get neutral stuff, but unless you are not finding out the gender, I think it's almost impossible to get green everything. For instance, we got a blue bumbo because it was a gift. Our umbrella stroller is blue because the blue was on sale and the red, orange, green, and other gender neutral colors weren't. But I don't think if I have a girl in a blue bumbo or stroller it will be a big deal.

No. I never understood the pink strollers. DS was a surprise so we have a lot of neutral stuff. Our carseat and strollers are black. DS has a bunch of boy pajamas but I don't care if DD has to wear blue sleepsacks etc.

All of our big stuff is neutral. Clothes in newborn-6-9 there are a lot of neutrals since we didn't know either's gender. We have a lot of pink and purple little clothes too since people give those as gifts. I know if we have a boy, I will go through everything to keep anything he can use.

Crib and dresser are neutral (read: white). Highchair is neutral. We sold our swing because DD hated it and it was a waste of space, but that too was neutral. Our strollers are light blue and lime green. Clothes are not neutral for the most part, but that's fine because I am borrowing most of them from my sister and a friend. My sister has a girl and a boy, so I'm set for the rest of his life if I ever have one. Car seats are not neutral. We hardly ever use it, though, so I'm not too worried (don't own a car).?

Aside from clothes, everything we have is gender neutral. Our Step2 Buggy is blue but IMO blue is gender nuetral for gear, it's when you are getting into pinks and purples that I consider it gender specific.

M's exersaucer was pink, but that was because all the other ones scared us. Everything else is gender-neutral.

The only big items we have that aren't gender neutral are our carseats. One was a Britax Marathon I found on sale for $113 at Target, so I didn't care what the fabric was at that price, and the other one was a gift from my parents, so they didn't know to pick a gender neutral one. I'm not as concerned about the carseats since they go to 65-70lbs. so DD will be in them when we have another baby.

I also buy items like sleepsacks, sippy cups, pajamas in gender neutral colors since I don't feel like buying them all over again if we have a boy.

It depends. ?Most of her clothes are gender specific though I really like white clothes so many of those (especially when she was really little and just wore sleepers, one piece outfits) would work on a boy. ?Now, not so much. ?We do have a lot of monogrammed things for her - gifts and things I've bought since I like monograms - so those things are child-specific.

The furniture in her nursery is all gender neutral - white but I did get specific bedding and art once she was born so I would need to switch that if we had a boy. ?I really am not into baby gear to begin with - I find it all ugly (strollers, swing, car seat, etc) so I basically went as neutral as I could b/c it wasn't as if I thought any patterns or designs were particularly beautiful. ?I just wanted the least offensive. ?Our stroller is a red bugaboo which goes either way and we could change it with the next if we really wanted but I'm not into that kind of thing and our car seats I got in greys/basics. ?The swing, bouncey seat, etc are all just ugly (imo - I'm just not into baby toy patterns to begin with) but are not boy or girl-like..the FP papasan swing, the baby einstein exersaucer, you get the idea.?

The PNPs are Noah's ark. (We have three identical. One for the house, one for my mom's, one for the car.)

The strollers are a navy blue In-step hiking stroller, and a circus print umbrella stroller.

The high chair? Fisher Price Space Saver. The swing and jumparoo? FP Rainforest. Floor mat/gym? Baby Einstein Discovering Water.

Crib? A simple oak, with matching dresser and a matching changing table I got rid of because it was pointless.

I buy Joseph's clothes at Kid to Kid, so I don't feel like I'm wasting money buying gender specific, and I'm a Nazi about keeping his clothes in great shape so I can sell them back to buy new, whether it's larger sizes for him, or new gender specific for a new baby.

i bought all gender neutral stuff anyway- but #2 came faster than we planned... Some stuff we can use for #2 but the crib, we'll have to buy another one.

We didn't find out ds's sex before he was born (well I didn't at least) so all the big stuff was gender nuetral and everything big we've purchased after has been as well. We are already TTC the next one so it seemed silly to buy boy specific major stuff as we will be using it for #2 as well.
