What traditions are you excited to do with your future child/ren?
I read this somewhere years ago and ever since I have wanted to do it with my children.
For the 24 days leading up the Christmas, you wrap up 24 different Christmas or Winter themed books (that you already have) and put them in a basket. Then the children get to choose one to unwrap each night and that is the bedtime story for the night. Sort of like an advent calendar, but it also gives them lots of things to unwrap without actually costing anything.

I think I may steal this when my kids get a little older- I like this!
Since I was little, we've had "Christmas Tree Decorating Parties" at home. One weekend in the beginning of December, we would drag out all the tree & house decor as well as our fake green Christmas tree and have lots of finger foods, drinks, & Christmas music. We would decorate, eat, drink and just have a great time as a family!!
I've already carried it on to DH & 7 year old DD. It's a LOT of fun!! Now only if we could start a "Christmas Cleanup" party! ha ha ha

We don't really have any traditions that I can think of, other than eating Chinese food on Christmas. Its sort of random, but we aren't Christians and the chinese restaurants are often the only ones open on Christmas Day.
I love that idea!! We don't have very many traditions so we can't wait to start some of our own
Sharing customs from our respective cultures, especially those involving food and family.
I also really can't wait to go to the pumpkin patch and the cider mill in the fall!
-Cutting down the Christmas tree (we just found a place to do that here this past year)
-Lighting the Channukah candles
-Putting out your shoes for the Lepruchauns

Christmas is great for decorating and getting the tree.
We love to do the pumpkin patch, the apple orchard and petting zoo in the fall
pancakes on weekend mornings are a good one too

DH and I are of Irish decent so we plan to have traditional Irish fare for dinner at least once a month.
We also plan on reading our children Irish folklore and fairie tale bedtime stories.
As for holidays, we've always opened at least 1 present on Christmas Eve. I plan on continuing that with my children. Oh, and camping during the summer
AGGGGHHHH I love Skyline!!!!! It would figure that the year I move from Cincinnati to Louisville I would become pregnant and the only two things I crave are Skyline and Goetta. I stock up every time I go home to visit.
Mine is not a holiday tradition, but my grandma takes all girls (her children, grand dauhgters and now great granddaughters) to get their ears pierced when they turn 13. That's how every girl in my family has had it happen and as long as my GM is alive I hope it will continue.
I love the Christmas Book idea, but ours would have to be a Christmas/Summer theme.
GET OUT! We do pizza on Christmas Eve. It actually started when we went to the Macy's Parade in New York when I was 8 or 9. The hotel's Thanksgiving dinner was HORRIBLE, and my dad went and got us a pizza. That Christmas we joked about having pizza again, and it stuck! My dad is retired military and my mom is civil service on base. It worked well because they always had to work until 5pm on Christmas Eve.
The Chinese food started when DH and I lived in New Jersey (heavily Jewish area). A local Chinese buffet advertised one year, and every year after we found ourselves eating with the Buddhists and the Jews! Its a little harder now that we live in the bible belt (Texas), but we manage.
When we were younger, we always used to decorate the (fake) Christmas tree on Thanksgiving. ?It was fun and it was nice to be able to enjoy the tree up for a while - not like my in-laws, who basically get their tree a few days before Christmas. ?My dad tried to start everyone listening to the Beach Boys Christmas album but it never took lol. ?I definitely like the new pajamas idea though!
One tradition that I already started with DH is to get a new ornament with the year written on it every year. ?This way when you look back over the years, it just brings back a lot of memories. ??
