3rd Trimester

speaking of car seat placement...

What kind of vehicle do you have, and where did you put your car seat?

We just got "done" installing our SnugRide 32 in a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2008 Saturn Vue, and I'm curious what those with similar cars did.

Thanks! And yes, I know this has been asked before.

Re: speaking of car seat placement...

  • We don't have a similar car (grand jeep) and installed ours back passenger side so it'd be easier for me to get baby in and out vs the middle seat (I am short). But now that causes our front seat passenger to ride with their knees in the dash so we are moving it to the center.

With DD the seat was behind the passenger side in both cars (I had a BMW X3 before). She's still in that position now and DS will be behind the driver's seat.?

  • With DD1 the infant carrier was behind the driver since I'm short.  When she had to move up to a RF convertible seat she had to move behind the passenger since it didn't fit behind the driver.  Once we turned her around, since we knew #2 was on the way, we moved her back behind the driver so #2 can be RF behind the passenger.  We never used the center because there's no center seat in a beetle (only 2 seatbelts and 2 latch systems in the back).

  • 1997 Toyota RAV4 and 2002 Toyota Echo.  Middle back in both.  No LATCH in the RAV4, outboard LATCH only on the Echo, however we chose the middle in the Echo because it seems safer, and the seat is quite secure with the belt.

Have you seen carseatdata.org?  You can look up your vehicle and see reviews of different car seats with that particular make/model.

  • I have a 2005 Ford Escape and DH has a 2008 Ford F-150

My car fits the car seat without any problems. We have not tried an infant seat in DH's truck yet. We have had boosters in there and they weren't a problem but I have a feeling the infant seat won't fit.

  • We have a hyundai and an infiniti...we are installing the carseats in the back/middle seat. ?The middle is the *safest* location for the car seat, but obviously doesn't always fit there in all cars or is not the most convenient

  • I have a 2006 Honda Accord with LATCH.  We haven't installed yet but I was planning on placing it in the middle.
  • We got the base into the middle backseat with my 2006 Malibu. It took 2 tries and reading of the manual before DH made it so the base doesn't move at all, but it works just fine. We haven't tried his 2007 Chev Silverado yet, but I don't expect too many problems.

  • The 2004 Pacifica we are placing it behind the driver.  The 1999 F250 Quad cab I have yet to figure out where to place it currently thinking about behind the passenger since the dog rides behind the driver.  The 1985 F150 I have no idea haven't tried yet this is DH vehical and he will need to use it at some time with the LO just not sure how to install no latch in something this old.

  • I have a 2008 Honda Accord and this was quite the ordeal.  The safest place is obviously in the middle but any vehicle 2001 or newer has the "Latch" system and for some reason the vehicle I have only has the latch system on either the driver's side or the passenger's side...not in the middle.  We went to a carseat checklane this weekend w the fire dept and they certify it and such...they said that with my car it has to either be on one side or the other...per manuf. specs in the owners manual...............OR.............you CAN put it in the middle but you can't use the latch system, you have to use the shoulder harness, which our carseat/base IS designed to use that too...just a little more difficult.  They showed us how to install it and it actually worked out pretty well.  We have the Chicco key fit 30 carseat and they said that this one is the best for every type of installation.  DH has a 1998 chevy truck and we put it in the middle of his truck too...his was super easy to install.  Both vehicles now certified :)
